HELLO STRANGER

We hate getting needless emails as much as the next person, but we also understand that some of you may be wondering what's going on and what's in the works for 2019 around the dog run. We hope you find the following information useful and join us as we make strides to improve things around the dog run and our neighborhood.

🚧 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE 🚧

GOOD NEWS: We have been told that as the cold weather leaves us, crews will return to finish the work around the entrance of the dog run.

BAD NEWS: We are still waiting on an exact date or window of completion.

FREE VACCINES

As we get into nicer weather and our dogs are out and about more often playing with others and just out in the city, we encourage you to check that your animals are up to date on their shots. To help you find alternatives to spending money at the vet we are happy to share a FREE option!

IT'S A 💩 JOB, BUT...

We all know that picking up after our dogs is the least enjoyable part of having a pet, but it is absolutely imperative that we are all vigilant about doing so. When feces is not picked up, it poses a major health risk to all dogs and humans alike. Bacteria can cause disease in humans and the waste is carrier for salmonella, giardiasis, and various types of worms — none of which you want to deal with if you can help it.

The Parks Department is also battling this #2 issue around Saint Nicholas Park as a whole and we can help make a big difference. We assume that if you are reading this newsletter, you are already doing your part in picking up after your dog. However, if you notice someone else miss or ignore their dog leaving a little unauthorized lawn decoration, speak up. Offer them a bag or direct them to one of the stands around the park.

COMMUNITY BOARD 9

For anyone who doesn't know, our dog run is officially a part of Community Board 9. We also have many members who live in Community Board 10's district.

Why are we telling you this? Glad you asked!

Our dog run serves as a safe space for our dogs to play and more it adds value as a place for members of our community to get to know each other and build a stronger neighborhood altogether. Community boards are given funds by the city to use in ways they see fit and our space could benefit greatly from this funding for many of our initiatives.

As a community group, we want to start petitioning our local community boards to invest in our space to help pay for the needed (and imperative) improvements like fencing, stair installation, and landscaping. While this will take some time to achieve, it is totally doable and your involvement and attendance at their meetings can help it all happen faster.
