Interbeing Sangha

Weekly Meeting

Please join us for our next weekly gathering, taking place Sunday, February 17th for meditation and dharma sharing, 6:30pm at Unitarian Place (Kingston Unitarian Fellowship), 206 Concession Street. Linda Tucker will be our bell minder this week.
Concentration

"The practice of concentration is like acquiring a lampshade to help us concentrate our mind on something. While doing sitting or walking meditation, cutting the future, cutting the past, dwelling in the present time, we develop our own power of concentration. With that power of concentration, we can look deeply into the problem. This is insight meditation."

Plum Village

Life is a Poem

Our social media editor, Cat London, recently shared this beautiful and insightful poem, which was posted on the Plum Village website last November, written by Sister Chân Hội Nghiêm:

My shadow falls on the body of Mother Earth.
This peaceful morning
sunlight penetrates between the leaves,
making long streaks on the vast fields.
In the enormous blue sky
flocks of birds spread their wings peacefully.
The hills and mountains silently appear near and far in the sunshine.
I hear my stream of consciousness turning to poetry.
How can there be another morning as peaceful and beautiful as this?

Traditions as Obstacles

"When we are caught in notions, rituals, and the outer forms of the practice, not only can we not receive and embody the spirit of our tradition, we become an obstacle for the true values of the tradition to be transmitted. We lose sight of the true needs and actual suffering of people, and the teaching and practice, which were intended to relieve suffering, now cause suffering. Narrow, fundamentalist, and dogmatic practices always alienate people, especially those who are suffering.”
