Copyright Essentials for U3As

Free webinar

We’ve all been puzzled by copyright questions. Do I need to ask permission to use this content? Can we photocopy images found online to give to our students? Is it okay to combine extracts from third-party sources with my own text to build a course pack?

In this webinar Liesl Fitzpatrick, Education Licensing Senior Manager at Copyright Agency, will show how U3As organisations can take the guess work out of copyright compliance. Using real life examples, she will talk through key copyright principles and common myths. She will also discuss the recent changes to the education copying scheme (Statutory Education Licence) set out in the Copyright Act 1968.

Monday 25 March 2019, 12.30 – 1.30 pm AEST
Free for all U3A Network NSW members

Nominations for 2019 Network Committee

Nominations for the 2019 Network Committee are now open. The Committee has appointed Carmen Champion (Governance Officer) as the Returning Officer and nominations will close 35 days before the AGM, that is by midnight, Friday 8th March, 2019. For details of the Committee positions and the election process refer to our Constitution here (see particularly section 5.3).

The Committee comprises the following positions:
(a) The President;
(b) The Vice-President;
(c) The Secretary;
(d) The Treasurer; and
(e) 9 ordinary Committee members, seven of whom officially represent specific regions in NSW and the ACT. However, all nine ordinary Committee members currently represent regions and a Constitutional change to formalise this will be part of the AGM - details will go out shortly.

If you have an interest in any of these volunteer positions, you may contact the President, Ian Robertson, with any questions.

Note that the Network has a policy of full reimbursement of costs (including travel) associated with carrying out the duties of any Committee position.

As with every U3A, the Network relies totally on volunteers, and without our volunteers we have no U3A.

Financial Assistance to U3As for attending the 2019 Conference

At its last meeting the Network Committee decided to offer financial assistance to smaller U3As so that they could attend the 2019 Conference. The assistance will cover the cost of Conference Registration for one or two representatives (at $110 each) plus up to a further $200 towards travel and accommodation.

Assistance will be on a reimbursement basis - we will need receipts in order to reimburse you or your U3A. You should also to be endorsed by your U3A as an official representative (a copy of a motion passed at your Committee meeting appointing you will do).

If you feel that this assistance will make the difference between someone from your U3A attending or not attending, please contact your Regional Representative (RR) in the first instance. Your RR will chat with you about the help we can offer, and then make a recommendation to the Committee. For a list of RRs and the U3As they cover go to our website and click on "Members" and then "Members by Region".

If you need further information please contact the President by clicking here

You’re invited to join ABC TV’s Q&A in 2019!

Q&A is the show where the audience asks the questions of Australia’s politicians, pundits and opinion-makers. We broadcast LIVE across the nation every Monday night and we need YOU to ask the questions! As we head towards a federal election, there will be lots to discuss and plenty of questions that needs answers!

We often run free return bus services for group bookings to make sure our show is accessible for those who don’t live in close proximity to our studios.

If Q&A is not broadcasting live from your area, you can still be part of the national discussion  – Q&A is now taking ‘Skype’ questions!
