Reminder to Submit Loeb Fellow Applications

  The Carol B. and Jerome T. Loeb Teaching Fellows program provides fellows the opportunity to implement ideas that augment the education of medical students and residents. Initiated in 2004 with a gift from Carol and Jerome Loeb and supported by The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital, the program was established to advance clinical education at WUSM by honoring faculty committed to clinical excellence and education, and encouraging teaching excellence to residents and students. Director of Wellness for GME position now open

  The Director of Wellness for Graduate Medical Education (GME) will report directly to the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and will work closely in collaboration with a number of key individuals and stakeholders. The overarching goal of this position is to develop the training, education, mentoring, and support necessary to build infrastructure and initiatives to address house staff wellness, burnout, depression, suicide, substance abuse, and fatigue issues throughout the Washington University/Barnes Jewish Hospital/St Louis Children’s Hospital GME consortium. Dr. Laurie Punch named Director of Medical Student Community Engagement

  Dr. Laurie Punch, a trauma surgeon at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, has been selected to serve as the Director of Medical Student Community Engagement. Dr. Punch will help design and implement a longitudinal community engagement medical student curriculum. Read more.

  Congratulations to Dean Kathy Diemer for her promotion to Professor of Medicine. Dean Diemer is also the Assistant Dean of Career Counseling.

Doctor of Physical Therapy Curriculum Renewal

  The DPT Program Curriculum Renewal Retreat, “The Future of Physical Therapy,” took place in January. Faculty from across the professions within the School, staff, clinical, and community partners came together to discuss questions about the future role of the Physical Therapist in society and the education needed for this role. Office of Medical Student Research Grants

  Dr. Koong-Nah Chung has recently accepted $21,000 in grants on behalf of the Office of Medical Student Research. Grants awarded include: The Kuchnir Scholar grant, a WUSTL Office of the Provost grant and a grant from the Meharry Office of the President. The aforementioned grants will go toward supporting students in the 2019 WUSM Meharry Summer Research Program.
