Happy Birthday Dalat
Celebrate 90 Years with us!

In 2019, Dalat celebrates 90 years of God’s incredible goodness to our school community! To honor and recognize our school’s special history and all of the ways alumni are part of the fabric of Dalat, we invite YOU to be part of our year of festivities!

It’s because of you — those who have experienced and contributed to Dalat’s great journey through time  — that this school serves students and the community the way we do today.

A good way to connect is through media, so we invite you to send a short video (around 30+ seconds) to share some simple words to congratulate Dalat. We are looking for quick, informal videos that either:
  • share what Dalat has meant to you,
  • give good wishes to Dalat for the future, or
  • offer simple congratulations to the school
As you create your video, please mention your name and the year you graduated or attended.

Former staff member Dwight Carlblom has something to say:

We'll post the videos on social media and on the alumni website. Please contact us at alumni@dalat.org.

Are you planning a trip to Penang?
Let us know before you arrive!

Dalat has had the great blessing of welcoming many alumni and former staff back to campus during this school year. If we know you are coming before you arrive, we can welcome you personally and connect you with those you knew when you attended here.

We hate for alumni to be disappointed, especially if your schedule puts you here during school breaks or summer holidays when many of the expat staff are traveling. Please contact us at alumni@dalat.org. We’ll definitely roll out the welcome mat for you here in Penang!

Congratulations to Alumna Elynn Tan (2018)!

Recent Dalat graduate Elynn Tan is a stand-out swimmer at Iowa State University! From the Iowa State Daily:

Elynn Tan has had one of the most outstanding seasons for a Cyclone freshman swimmer in recent history.

But before she began setting records, she was one of the best female swimmers in Malaysia. How that journey started was rather unconventional for the Penang, Malaysia native.

Welcome back to Dalat, Alumni and Friends!

(left to right) In January, we were glad to welcome back to campus Dalat alumni David Fitzstevens (Class of 1969), Tim Undheim (Class of 1970), Dwight Martin (Class of 1974), and Mike Wood (Class of 1985).

We also welcomed Caitlin Goh (Class of 2017).

Aaron Tan and Daniel Kim (both Class of 2018) stopped by to visit as well.

Thankful for the Unseen

Dalat student Matthew Strong wrote the following blog post for Dalat’s Senior Scribble. His grandfather was Gordon Strong, a beloved staff member at Dalat who passed away in January.

Because of God’s graciousness, community members have achieved excellence here at Dalat—socially, academically, and physically, and we rightfully celebrate these people. But there is a group of people at Dalat which, may I say, are the key to which the door of opportunity unlocks, the background from which the embossment of excellence shines, and the foundation on which the house of profitability lies. These people are yet to be venerated.

My grandpa passed away a month ago. He spent 19 years at Dalat as a house parent for elementary students and his legacy still lives on. It lives on because he built relationships with this group of unseen people.

Great is His Faithfulness:
The History of Dalat International School

Dalat’s beautifully illustrated historical book, Great Is His Faithfulness, written by alumnus and teacher John “Tommy” Tompkins is something everyone who has attended our school will want to have. The book includes photos and stories from throughout the school’s 90 years and four locations.

The book is available to be shipped from the U.S. or Malaysia.

Read more information on our website.

What’s New With You?

Update your former classmates about the latest happenings in your life. A new job? Recently retired? Did you just get married? Have a baby? Made a major life change? Or maybe you just haven’t been in touch with fellow alumni in some time. We can help you reconnect!

In 3–4 sentences let us know how you are doing and if possible, send a current photo. Please include your full name (including your maiden name) and year of graduation. We will share your brief update on Dalat’s website.

Email to:  cfranceschi@dalat.org or alumni@dalat.org.
