Afghanistan fears spillover of India-Pakistan tensions

Fearing a spillover from tensions between India and Pakistan, war-ravaged Afghanistan has advised its nuclear-armed neighbors to exercise restraint, Shadi Khan Saif reports from Kabul
Tensions flared up this week between between India and Pakistan over terrorism in the disputed region of Kashmir after India said its air force struck hideouts of the militant group Jaish-e-Mohammad on February 26.

JeM had claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on February 14 that killed 40 Indian paramilitary forces in Kashmir.

In response to India's incursion, the Pakistan Air Force shot down an Indian Air Force MiG-21 in Pakistani-administered Kashmir on February 27, and took an IAF pilot into custody.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Tuesday said that India’s “aggressive posture” could affect joint efforts for peace in Afghanistan, and Brigadier Mohammad Arif, a retired Afghan Air Force officer, told The Defense Post that Kabul fears Pakistan might target Indian interests in Afghanistan through JeM and other proxies such as the Taliban, Islamic State Khorasan Province, and Lashkar-e-Taiba, which all have footprints in Afghanistan.
