Proposals are still being accepted for the 2019 TCRM Workshop, a longstanding tradition of the NCFR Annual Conference. Sessions will run from Tuesday, Nov. 19 through the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 20 at the conference site in Fort Worth, Texas.

• The deadline for submissions is March 15, 2019. Please note there is a new option to submit this year using a Google Form.
• Volunteers are also needed to review TCRM proposals. Please sign up! This is separate process from the NCFR conference proposal review system.

Research published and cited by the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) demonstrates the importance of keeping families together when they seek asylum or immigration into the U.S. The references in this collection include NCFR articles as well as research and additional resources from other social science organizations.

NCFR will continue to add to this collection as new research becomes available. Your suggestions and contributions are welcome.

NCFR seeks nominations and applications for the position of editor of Journal of Marriage and Family (JMF).

The four-year term of the new editor will begin with the publication of the February 2021 issue. However, editorial responsibilities will begin to transfer to the new editor beginning January 2020.

The JMF Editor Search Committee will review application materials beginning Aug. 1, 2019, and anticipates making a selection by Oct. 1, 2019.

Family Life Education can play a role in reducing behaviors that lead to imprisonment and in helping families to cope with the repercussions of having a family member in prison.

NCFR seeks stories and experiences of working with families impacted by incarceration for the spring 2019 issue of CFLE Network, a quarterly newsletter published for Certified Family Life Educators.

Also of interest are articles that detail education programs, prevention strategies, research updates, and resources related to families and incarceration.

NCFR members Erin K. Holmes, Ph.D., and Alan J. Hawkins, Ph.D., led a team of Brigham Young University researchers on a recent meta-analytic study of 270 responsible fatherhood programs aimed at unmarried, never-married, and low-income fathers.

The evaluation found that these programs were successful in having "small but statistically significant effects" in the areas of father involvement, parenting skills, and most notably, co-parenting skills.

According to data from the National Center for Health Statistics and the American Community Survey of the U.S. Census Bureau, there were slightly more than two marriages for every one divorce in the United States for the year 2017. 

A new Family Profile report (FP-19-03) from NCFMR at Bowling Green State University offers a summary and analysis of this finding. NCFMR is co-directed by NCFR members Susan L. Brown, Ph.D., and Wendy D. Manning, Ph.D.

The National Conference of State Legislatures has launched the Maternal and Child Health Database, which tracks enacted U.S. state policies across 14 key areas of maternal and child health.

The University of Idaho seeks an expert in early childhood development to join the Margaret Ritchie School of Family and Consumer Sciences. This is a nine-month, tenure-track position with 50% teaching and advising; 45% scholarship and creative activities; and 5% university service and leadership expectations. The successful candidate will advise undergraduate and graduate students; develop an externally funded, internationally recognized research program focused on early childhood development; and provide service to the university, region, state, and appropriate professional organizations.
