Dear Muddy Brook Families,

This was an extremely busy week.  Wednesday through Friday this week, our middle school hosted a visit from a PK-6 school in Philadelphia, the Jubilee School.  A focus of the Jubilee curriculum is civil rights including the life and work of Great Barrington native W.E.B DuBois.  The Jubilee visitors in grades 4-6 were met by MBE and MVM students on Wednesday, and we had the privilege of sending some of our fourth grade representatives to a couple of their activities this week.  One of these activities was a welcome dinner for our Jubilee guests featuring a presentation from the great-grandson of Dr. DuBois, Jeff Peck.  I'd like to thank Gary Happ at Crissey Farms for generously providing the space for this event.  You can read more about the Jubilee visit in the next edition of the Muddy Brook Coyote.

Friday was the day of our annual Read Across America event, and this year featured a special theme of 'Coming to America.'  Mrs. Patty Melville, our librarian and coordinator of the event, found more than 20 guest readers from around the world.  Our guest readers shared a read-aloud story or folk tale from their country of origin.  They also some shared about their immigration experience and answered questions from students.  I want to thank all of our guest readers, many of whom are or were MBE parents and family members.  I'd also like to thank Mrs. Melville for her hard work and successful coordination of a very special learning activity.

Have a great weekend!

Parents and Families, the Muddy Brook PTA needs YOU!

Please attend an organizational meeting on March 20 at 6:00pm to learn about the PTA's mission and work.  Join us in building school community and learn how you can help with events like Campfire Night, the Parent Learning Lab and Mud Day.  We need your support and participation to sustain these and other great activities for our community.

Childcare will be provided and refreshments will be served.  We look forward to seeing you!

Patty Melville is the Muddy Brook School Collection Coordinator for dried up, used up markers.  This initiative, by Crayola, was developed to keep old (plastic) markers out of landfills.  Families in town can send their markers in to me, and I will pack them and send them back to Crayola. ANY type of marker, even ones they don't sell, any size and shape, even Sharpies or dry-erase!  Crayola pays for the shipping!  I'm very excited to help with green initiative and hope everyone takes advantage of it!
