CG was awarded the Outstanding Tree Advocacy Group of 2018 by the Florida Urban Forestry Council. We are excited to announce Nate Faris is joining Community Greening!  Nate is a Board Certified Master Arborist and a Registered Consulting Arborist. He was the Director of Community Forestry in Indianapolis and has worked in urban forestry for more than 13 years. In 2006 he created the Youth Tree Team tree maintenance program that is now a nation-wide model and has employed over 500 young adults. A native Hoosier, he is leaving Indiana behind to come to sunny South Florida and join us on the frontlines of climate change. This is the free agent pick up of the year!

Co-founder Matt Shipley was the fortunate scholarship recipient of the Southesast Region to attend the Municipal Forestry Institute in Oregon.  This high-level training focuses on leadership and management skills in urban forestry.  We are building up to increase our capacity and impact in South Florida.  Thank you Dr. Paul Ries, the cadre, and the MFI class of 2019 for the opportunity! The Grass River Garden Club has generously supported our mission since our founding in 2016. Their members recently came out to tour the projects they have funded which included the Community Grove and a hidden grove of sugar apples and avocados!  Thank you for your partnership!

St. Paddy's Day Parade Round 2. We hope to see everyone this Saturday at the one and only Delray Beach St. Patrick's Day Parade.  Last year our motley crew of all ages had the parade-goers chanting "Plant More Trees! Plant More Trees!"  We're coming out this year with a show of force and we're going to show off the new CG supply trailer that you all helped us raise the money for at our annual fundraiser.  THANK YOU!  And keep it GREEN.

We owe a lot to our partnership with Delray Beach Parks and Recreation Department and it's director Suzanne Fisher.  From the very beginning we have worked side by side with the Parks Team to plant hundreds of trees with volunteers in our public parks. In 2017, we partnered on our first major project, the Community Grove at Catherine Strong Splash Park. The fruit trees (sugar apple, guavas, avocados, mangos, soursop, starfruit, mamey...) in the Grove were selected by Delray residents of The Set  and the fruit is free to pick. This innovative project that beautifies the area and feeds people is now being toured by other city officials in the county. "Delray Beach Parks and Recreation is excited to continue our yearly partnership with Community Greening. Improving the tree canopy in Delray Beach is essential to improving the lives of our residents, neighbors, and visitors. Trees provide not only clean air, filtered water, shade, and food, but also represent life, peace, nature, and provide for improved quality of life" said Suzanne Fisher, Director of Delray Beach Parks and Recreation Department.
