Instructions for
living a life:
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.

Lent begins Ash Wednesday (March 6), drawing us toward the light of Christ’s cross and resurrection. At the Transfiguration, the disciples saw that light emanate from Jesus up on the mountaintop, and they were astonished.
How do we open ourselves to that transforming light of God? Lent invites us into a time and space to be in Christ’s presence, so God’s light and love become more fully alive in us, and radiate from our own lives. We are not the source of that light, but it can shine through us!
We will be offering a church wide devotional rooted in scripture and the work of Mary Oliver, who is widely celebrated as an accessible, insightful observer of the natural world, the life of faith, and the interplay between the two. These devotions will be at the heart of our Lenten journey as a church and will serve as the key focus of our Wednesday night dinner series, Lenten Soup for the Soul. Our Pastors will lead us as we gather for dinner and reflection each Wednesday night, from 6-7:30 pm, March 13 – April 10.

Mission Possible is a relationship building, love sharing group of third and fourth graders. We travel once a month to visit and make friends with the residents of Sharon Brooke. This month, Sadie Carrington had the idea for everyone to bring their favorite book. When we arrived, we found residents who wanted to hear our books. One resident said to her reader, “Are you tired of reading?” The child answered, “No”. “Good!” said the resident. “I want to hear how it ends”. Next time we visit, that resident, (who happens to be 100 years old AND a writer), will share a book of poems that she wrote with our children. If you have a third or fourth grader who would like to join us (last Monday of the month) please let Ellen know.

Would you like to join members of your church family at FPC in an informal setting for food and fellowship? Consider participating in a 2019 Fellowship Group (formerly referred to as the Dinner Club).
Those that sign up will be divided into groups of nine, more or less depending on participation. Four activities will be scheduled by each group over the course of this year. The group will decide the venue. Some will choose to meet at a restaurant, some will want to dine in each other’s homes, some will arrange a potluck, and some groups may try all three. It can be breakfast, lunch, dinner, or no meal at all. The idea is just to get together and get to know each other. Generally, two people in the group will host one event. Both singles and couples are welcome to join, but couples will be placed in the same group.
If you are interested, send Doris Porter your contact information by March 15. You can email Don Haven, text or call at (740)398-7574 if you have questions. Groups will be assigned no later than March 31st. Please make this information available to others who may be interested.
