3rd March 2019

Dear Friend,

Welcome to this week's BPPC eNews.

How is your prayer life?

No matter how long you have been a Christian there is still something to learn about praying. When we look at Jesus' life of prayer and the prayers recorded in the Scriptures we really realize that we need to learn more about prayer by reflection and practice.

A School of Prayer

That's why we are launching our "School of Prayer", a friendly get-together twice-a-Sunday at 8:30 am and 5:00 pm where we can listen, learn and pray in a simple, God-honouring way. If you don't feel comfortable praying aloud yet, that's ok. An amen of agreement to another's prayer is fine, as Jesus said, "If two agree on anything they ask it shall be done unto them by my Father in heaven." (Matt 18:19)

How it Works

We'll have a 5-10 min interaction on some vital aspect of prayer and then seek to apply that for 30 mins in our praying. There'll be no "shopping list" prayers, but we will focus on a couple of issues that are vital to our church and God's Kingdom and seek to exhaust them. And we'll be looking for God's answers as we pray according to His will. If you have any questions, check with an elder, Bob Harvey or Lyn Kunde. See you next Sunday at 8:30 am or 5:00 pm.

"Christ teaches us to pray not only by example, by instruction, by command, by promises, but by showing us HIMSELF, the ever-living Intercessor, as our Life.. It's when we believe this, and go and abide in Him for our prayer-life too, that our fears of not being able to pray aright will vanish, and we will joyfully and triumphantly trust our Lord to teach us to pray, to be Himself the life and the power of our prayer." (Andrey Murray: With Christ in the School of Prayer)

Enjoy the eNews and have a great week walking with Jesus,

Morning Service - 9:30 am

This morning Pastor André will preach from Isa 63:15-19 and Mat 6:9-13 on the theme "Our Father,". Often we can pray the "Lord's Prayer" (or maybe the "Apostles' Prayer") as though it were a mantra of motions and sounds alone. Our new series, "The Lord's Prayer" will take us through it step by step and reveal why Jesus gave it to them and us, and what it means. This Sunday we will plummet the depths of meaning in the words, "Our Father."

Evening Service - 6:00 pm

This evening our Assistant, Johann Vorster, will continue the series on The Epistles of Peter and preach from 2 Peter 1:1-11 on the theme, "Add to Your Faith." We are not saved to simply stagnate or go back to who we once were. Instead, the Apostle Peter instructs us to add to our faith great virtues - because we are living as people of the promises of God through Jesus Christ. Come hear more of these amazing promises!

Lucinda's Praise and Prayer

Yes,my hearing has improved since the last operation. Praise the Lord with me. News from Weberek is that Moyses, Josie, Marilia (a Brazilian missionary nurse needing more finances to stay in E.Timor), Josete from YWAM and Anarela (a young Timorese Christian) compose the team that's visiting every fortnight. Up to 140 children come to the kids programme and more people are coming to the lord. Marcus, the house church leader for many years, is near death with family pressuring him to practise some animistic magic, but he stands firm as a Christian and wants a simple Christian funeral. Pray for God to move.

Focus on Japan Coming Soon

After such a blessed and encouraging time with Lauren last Saturday evening we look forward to a face-to-face meeting with the Stewart Family. No, they won't be here but they will be here - via Skype. We'll see them and chat with them about their lives and ministry in Japan. It's all happening on Saturday 6th April at 6:30 pm, so pop it on your agenda right now, ok? Read more...

  • We continue focusing prayer on those who have serious physical challenges (Pam, Kathy, Jenny Robertson, Desley, Bill, Fred & Corine, Jenny Tilley's brother-in-law who had a stroke) but let's not forget that there are others who are discouraged, depressed, oppressed, backslidden, hopeless, tired, stressed out. Often these things are easily concealed by a nice "Christian" smile, so pray for them!

  • Remember to pray for our new "baby members" and their parents: Isabella Cremona (Andreas & Jessica), Abigail Frost (Aaron & Kathy), Cooper Hopkin (Matt & Margot) and Theo Worssel (Jayme & Karl) and for our pregnant families, Marguerite Cremona & Nick and any others yet unrevealed?
  • Miracles Keep Happening

The God of Miracles has done it again and Karl and Jayme Worssell are delighted to announce the safe arrival of Theo Murray Worssell on Monday morning, 25th February 2019. He weighed in at 8 pounds 5 ounces (3.77 kgs) and both Mum and Bub are doing well. We rejoice with Karl and Jayme and pray that God will bless them abundantly as they seek to train up this little guy in the ways of the Lord Jesus.

  • Spiritual & Mental Devastation

North Queenslanders are still trying to cope with the devastation around and the devastation within - the emotional, mental and spiritual devastation that has left farmers and townspeople in a daze, lost and without hope. Let's focus our prayer on these suffering people and pray that they might meet up with the Good Shepherd and the God of all Comfort.

Month of Prayer for RI

Some 3,500 volunteers keep Religions Instruction going for about 130,000 children in Qld State Schools under a provision of the Education Act, with some 70% of parents and carers opting for it. This year, with a Principal's permission, brochures may be distributed at school giving information on the RI programme. Pray that RI will continue and that lives will be transformed by the teaching of Scripture. Read more...

Wedding Bells are Ringing

Everyone at BPPC is invited to come and celebrate with Andrew Birkmyer and Jade Tarleung who will be married on Saturday 9th March at 2:30 pm in the church. Light refreshments will be served in the hall after the ceremony. We rejoice with the couple and pray God's richest blessing upon them in their life together.

YaH on the Move Again

You can't hold the Young at Heart down! This coming Friday they're on the move again, pooling cars, to visit the Beenleigh Historical Village and Chocolate Factory. All sweet-tooths welcome! We'll be meeting at the church at 9:00 am. Need more info, then check with Lyn Kunde on 0412 014 117 or read more...

Hell's best kept Secret

Satan has secrets and this Saturday at 11:00am the Young Adults are inviting everyone to come and join them to hear a word from Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron on this very subject. "Hell's Best Kept Secret" will be a great training session for evangelism so don't miss it.

  • The Kids R.O.C.K. SkyZone event is happening next Friday evening, March 8th, but we need the registration forms in as soon as possible.
  • Hey, youth! Get your registration forms filled in now for the great night of bowling that's happening on 15th March. No forms - no bowling! Sorry!
  • Attention - Camp's Coming!

Yes, Youth Camp has come round again from Sunday 7th - Friday 12th April. Great food, Laser tag team challenges, Swimming, Team night, friendships; but best of all down-to-earth, practical talks on "How God connects with us in Christ." It's for all people of high-school age from our church or not, so get your registration forms in as soon as possible and spread the word.   Read more...

Membership discussions

Please contact André if you are interested in BPPC communicant membership. A new series of discussions will soon start. These usually happen at 4:00 pm on Sundays but other times can be arranged if it suits better.

Cans for Jesus!

Support the advance of the Gospel among University students through Jako and Jess Schwartz by bringing your used cans and bottles to church in a plastic bag and placing them in the box behind the hall. Every 10c gained will help to save a lost Uni student. If you take them to the Salvos or some other depot, please use the code C10002955 to direct the funds to Jako and Jess.
