Call for Proposals
for the 2019 Summer Issue of Japan Harvest
Theme: Engaging the community
We’re calling for articles for the Summer issue of Japan Harvest. Our theme is Engaging the community. This is a broad topic that lends itself to a variety of approaches. What’s your church doing to engage its local community? What ideas do you have about doing this, but have yet to find a way to do it? Do you know of partnerships between churches, missions, or parachurch organizations that are engaging the community in a new or vital way? Can you write an article about an aspect of Japanese culture that will help us understand how we can engage the Japanese community at a deeper level? We want to hear from you.
We're seeking to encourage and spur one-another on, so keep that in mind as you think about if you can contribute.
Topic ideas include:
- church contextualization
- partnership/cooperation
- building local relationships
- evangelism with various focus groups in society
- creative evangelism
Articles should align with Japan Harvest’s mission statement: to encourage, inspire, and equip JEMA members. Generally articles are one to two pages long (600-1,500 words).
Please send a proposal before you begin writing. Proposals will be received by Wendy Marshall until the 11th of March. The proposal should be a paragraph or two, outlining the main points of the suggested article. You will be advised soon after the 11th whether or not your proposal has been selected. The due date for completed articles is March 30.
Writer's Guidelines are posted on the JEMA website (see here).
Photos needed
We’d love you to submit quality photos for possible publication too. Send an email to japanharvest.photos@gmail.com with your photo/s attached. In the email subject, please include a key word that describes the theme of your photos (for example, “prayer”).
Photos suitable for this issue's theme include:
- photos of your church engaging in community work (please be careful about sharing photos of people's faces)
- photos relevant to the article you're submitting
- photos of a church's work in contextualization of the gospel
Plus we welcome general photos of Japan like:
• daily life in Japan
• Japanese culture
• cityscapes
• scenic photos
If you want to submit a photo of someone who’s face is recognisable, please ask their permission first.
Blessings,
Wendy
