Helping Young People Process the Christchurch tragedy
The 15th March will be a date many of us have etched in our brain for a long time, or possibly forever. Throughout the tears I have shed over this past week there has been such a mixture of emotions in them from such deep sadness and loss, to also such joy in reflecting and witnessing how much of our country are doing their best to stand with those most effected.
I have been blown away by our incredible tamariki who have been finding ways to express their grief in the most beautiful ways. Yesterday a friend of mine shared a video on Facebook of some boys from Rongotai College in Wellington doing one of their haka at the Kilbirnie Mosque in support and right in the middle was one of our boys from Niue St James. Supporting our young people to do these great expressions is one of the greatest things we can do to help them process this terrible tragedy.
PYM has very quickly worked to put together a resource to help support. You can find it here.
We also have been posting other resource ideas on our Facebook page here.
Please share with us other great resources you have.

Sustainable Practices
We love our youth leaders! But how well are we really supporting them? The first step is supporting your key leader well, because if they are cared for and feel well supported then it’s very likely that that will flow to the wider team through various ways.
Here is one great way to support your key leader. Sustainable Practices for Youth Ministry, a practical guide to help churches think through the key issues of either employing or managing a key youth leader. There are two versions, one designed for those in volunteer roles and one for paid. Check it out, let us know what you think.
If you are the key leader approach your parish council or elders to look seriously at this document and engage in it with you. There may also be some helpful things in it to help you reflect on how you celebrate and support your team of leaders.
