Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) Scam AlertScammers pretending to be from ASIC have been contacting Registry customers asking them to pay fees and give personal information to renew their business or company name. These emails often have a link that provides an invoice with fake payment. An email is probably a scam and is not from ASIC if it asks you:
  • to make a payment over the phone
  • to make a payment to receive a refund
  • for your credit card or bank details directly by email or phone
More information on this scam is available on the ASIC website. Keep informed of all the latest scams on the Scamwatch website

Did you know? Smoking is linked to as many as 80% of lung cancers AND
10 years after quitting, your chance of getting lung cancer is half what it would have been if you kept smoking.Your risk of most other smoking-related cancers will reduce too as your body continues the process of replacing abnormal cells with healthy ones. Smoking And Physical Health

200,000 Cancer Cases Could Be Avoided! - New Cancer Council Australia funded research has shown over 200,000 cancer cases could be avoided in Australia over the next 25 years if all Australian adults maintained a healthy weight and met the physical activity guidelines for cancer prevention. Professor Sanchia Aranda, CEO Cancer Council Australia said, "With more than two thirds of adults considered overweight or obese, and nearly half insufficiently active, these results show we have the potential to prevent a significant number of cancers in Australia and potentially save thousands of lives." Cancer Council Australia makes the following recommendations for nutrition and physical activity in support of the Dietary Guidelines for Australian Adults and the National Physical Activity Guidelines for Australians:

  1. Aim for five hours of moderate physical activity each week, such as a brisk walk, recreational swimming, dancing or even pushing a stroller
  2. Eat plenty of vegetables, legumes and fruit: five or more servings of vegetables and two or more servings of fruit per day
  3. Make most of your cereals wholegrain
  4. Eat meat in moderation - no more than three to four servings of, lean red meat each week and avoid processed meats
  5. Select lower fat foods like lean meat and reduced-fat dairy products, and try using low-fat cooking methods like grilling instead of frying
  6. Choose low-salt products - flavour foods with herbs and spices instead of salt.

CYCLISTS - HAVE YOUR SAY!
To improve road safety for cyclists and encourage courtesy on the roads among cyclists and drivers, WA introduced the Minimum Passing Distance Regulation in November 2017. The law requires drivers to give cyclists a safe passing distance of:
  • 1 metre on roads up to 60km/h; and
  • 1.5 metres on roads more than 60km/h.
Have your input on improving road safety for cyclists and promote safe interactions on the roads between cyclists and drivers by taking this survey to evaluate this regulation plus put your input into further identification of trends in the level of awareness and compliance of this law.
