The sun is shining and in fact this is the week of record February temperatures, compared to this time last year when we were experiencing the ‘Beast from the East’.

We have the same primary school in the centre so they have a complete contrast in their experience. We have had a varied and busy month which has been a good start to our year. Read on to find out more.

Groups

We have had 3 weeks of primary school residentials, 2 with the same school at the beginning of the month and another week to close the month, and 3 weekends filled with youth groups. 2 of the youth groups have been a few times before then 1 was new to the Centre. All went well and it is great to see youth leaders and their young people building relationships and deepening faith through these weekends away.

Team

Over the English schools’ half term week, the Centre had no guests so once again the Team were out training, climbing, biking and paddling. In the coming weeks there are lots of courses coming up and it is really good to see everyone gaining in experience and qualifications. In our team bible study times, we have finished an 8-week study called ‘The Bible Course’ produced by The Bible Society. This was appreciated by all of us and gave an excellent overview of how all the books, characters and events fit together. We have now started a new series by Bob Goff looking at loving people and how to reach out to each other more effectively. So, whether physically or spiritually we continue to learn and grow as a team.

We have put out lots of adverts for new team members and are keen to add to summer team, qualified team, domestic team, and also provide gap year opportunities. If you know anyone who is looking for these opportunities let them know.

Also some good news that Freya was born to Phil and Joy (actually born in January). Phil is back to work now and occasionally looks quite tired – we wonder why!

Local Youth Work

Friday night youth groups continue to be a busy but amazing time. We love seeing the 60 to 70 young people that come regularly on a Friday. Over recent weeks we have been going back to basics with our older youth in the teaching slot, looking at prayer, worship, church, reading the bible and so on. With the younger ones we have been looking at ‘Encounters with Jesus’. Every other week we meet on a Sunday for ‘Extra Time’. This is for the older ones who want to go deeper and around 10 have been coming along which is really exciting. We are currently launching bookings for summer camps, a mission in 2020, and also holiday club in the Easter holidays. We trust for amazing things to happen in the lives of the young people through all of these things.

Other news

The new oven is working well and appreciated by all. Lots of work has been going on in the grounds, painting fences, chopping up wood, restoring the Firecrest Cabin and various other things.

Please pray:

  • For recruitment for summer team and for the long term team.
  • For the team to continue to learn and grow together as they serve God here.
  • For financial provision for all that is needed
  • That preparation for the trip to Malawi for Pete, Joe and Jacob go well.
  • For the young people we work with in the local area, that amazing things will happen as we share our faith with them.
  • For the planning and provision for a small group to go and help with a summer camp in Albania at the end of the summer.
Thank you for reading this news and for your continued prayer and support.
With love from Susie & Pete
and all the team here at Min y Don
