Theme: Outreach

Dear <<First Name>>,

Welcome to the first email of 2019, we hope you've had a good couple of months. We've been busy organizing the all age outreach conference and we hope to use this email to share as much of that with you as possible. We haven't edited the keynote talks yet but we have typed up our outreach ideas wall, got you links videos shown at the conference, toolkit, useful resources, and poems! The second best thing to being there.

We'll make sure we include recordings from the conference in future mailings. In the meantime why not watch grab some popcorn, watch the videos in this email and have a discussion with other Quakers.

We've got one request for support, we'd really appreciate help reviewing Junior Yearly Meeting. Take particular note of the Exploring Worship/Being a Quaker Parent weekend in July, more on that at the bottom of the email. Please share this event with Quaker parents/carers.

As ever we love to hear from you. Are you building all age community in your meeting? What are your outreach plans for 2019? Quaker Week 2019 info coming soon.

Reviewer required: Someone is needed to write a review report on Junior Yearly Meeting (JYM) this year. This person will be sent the feedback sheets from participants (70), the adult team (10) and the young people’s team (12). For these they need to create a report summarising the feedback and identifying what evidence there is as to how the event aims have been met. A pro-forma for the report will be sent together with the review forms on April 17 and the report needs to be emailed by April 29. The report is sent to the committee with oversight of JYM and used in the planning of future JYMs.

If you are willing able to take on this please email Howard Nurden howardn@quaker.org.uk outlining if you have any experience of such tasks, by 9am Monday 1 April.

What does my headscarf mean to you?
Unconscious bias is a prevalent factor driving culture, causing us all to make assumptions based on our own upbringings and influences. Such implicit prejudice affects everything, and it's time for us to be more thoughtful, smarter, better. In this funny, honest talk, Yassmin Abdel-Magied uses a surprising way to challenge us all to look beyond our initial perceptions.
  • How do we treat people who come to our meetings?
  • How can we as Quakers become more aware of our unconscious bias?

Where the Hell is Matt? 2012

Matt dances all over the world, different dances with different people but some how the same.
  • How does this speak to you?
  • How can we go to where people are and learn to dance their dance in our outreach?
