Counselling
Counselling with GroOops and the GroOops Network

Many organisations provide excellent practical support and coaching. However, few specialise in providing a space totally dedicated to hearing about and addressing the secondary and constitutional presentations of *Dyslexia.

We are a charity that tackles the impact and all the complex emotional issues that Dyslexia may bring – not just for the dyslexic person but for their families, colleagues and peers too.

While we try to make ourselves as accessible as we can by offering both face to face and Skype counselling sessions, unfortunately we are not always able to see everyone who gets in touch. This is why we have developed the GroOops Dyslexia Aware Emotional Wellbeing and Counselling Network. Our network is made up of experienced therapists who have undertaken our Fundamentals of Dyslexia Aware Training and who we consider competent to take referrals.

We have had wonderful feedback from our clients. In fact, we have found that 80% of clients who have provided us with their feedback post-counselling have reported a reduction in their anxiety levels.

If you would like to speak to us about counselling, please don't hesitate to contact us either by email or by phoning +44 (0)208 346 0941.

Feedback:

"It's been a huge relief. Understanding more about neurodiversity has made me appreciate and know myself more and to take heart from that." - STUDENT

"My anxiety is at 2 no 1 as I am going through a difficult time at work, but it is thanks to my counselling that I am managing this situation at level 2 and not 5, so its very positive :) Also I now feel like I can begin me life, it's a very exciting time - thank you so much!" - CIVIL SERVANT

*We use the term ‘Dyslexia’ because it is the most common of all Sp.L.D.s. What we do is largely applicable to all the other conditions known to be related such as Dyscalculia, A.D.H.D., A.D.D., Autism Level 1 (Asperger’s Syndrome), Dyspraxia and Dysgraphia.  Many of these conditions can overlap and often coexist.
GroOops Dyslexia Aware Emotional Wellbeing and Counselling Network
The GroOops Dyslexia Aware Emotional Wellbeing and Counselling Network was launched less than 6 months ago and has already helped us to ensure that dyslexia aware counselling is more widely available.

At present we operate from 10 areas in and around London and hope to reach even further very soon. Many of the counsellors on our network also offer Skype appointments.

Network membership is open to professionals who have attended at least one Fundamentals course; who are committed to supporting the dyslexic community and the GroOops vision of an emotionally healthy dyslexia aware world and are willing to engage in ongoing CPD in this area of specialism and share learning.

This stimulating and intensive THREE-day workshop offers both an understanding of the Emotional Repercussions of Dyslexia, and also practical applications to address the issues that it creates.  It gives participants the opportunity to put recently learned skills into active practice. It is a valuable toolkit for all those who support dyslexic people such as counsellors, trainers, supervisors, social workers, youth workers, tutors, teachers, teaching assistants, and managers etc., and will provide knowledge and skills that can be used directly with clients.

You will gain:

1. An Understanding of how and why emotional repercussions of dyslexia occur
2. A theoretical overview underpinning our approach including aspects of:
  • Human Givens
  • CBT
  • Social Engagement Theory
  • PolyVagal theory
  • Ego-state work
