The 2019 Adventures in STEM Festival is a two-day event that provides opportunities for pre-selected 6thgrade middle school students to engage in and observe demonstrations of Science, Engineering, Technology, and Math (STEM). SHPE Houston is collaborating with San Jacinto College to help impact students’ interest in science and math, which are vital areas of our economic sustainability. Thank you to all the volunteers for your support in February! In case you missed out, here are a couple of highlights of what we've accomplished!

|
Career and Education Day (CED): SHPE Houston participated once again at the Houston Hispanic Forum's 33rd Annual Career and Education Day. In this event that received over 10,000 students and parents, SHPE Houston, hosted "A day in the life of an Engineer" panel sessions and provided a space where students and parents could have one-on-one talks with our members and receive information about our MentorSHPE and Scholarships programs. On top of that, we collaborated with TAME on their Trailblazer Museum-on-Wheels interactive exhibit. Thanks to the help of over 50 SHPE volunteers, collectively we help spark the interest in STEM of over 500 students! Thank you all for making this year's CED a great success and help us live up to our mission of Changing Lives.

SHPE/NSBE Women's Empowerment Panel - We had the pleasure to attend the Young Women College Prep Academy (YWCPA), where over 300 ladies in middle school and high school heard the stories from our panelists in different industries. Our SHPE and NSBE Panelists shared their experiences in how they got into STEM fields, their current job and very importantly, shared advice that they wished they had received when they were younger. Thank you Mayra, Carina, Britney and Megan for making this event a great success! Also, thank you to our event sponsors: Rockwell Automation and Jacobs - for their contributions to make this event a great success.
