Our spring exhibitions have opened to crowded galleries and glowing press. Aaron Glass’s The Story Box: Franz Boas, George Hunt and the Making of Anthropology and Paul Stirton’s Jan Tschichold and the New Typography: Graphic Design Between the World Wars are two faculty-curated Focus Projects currently on view. Sasha Nixon (MA 2018) is the curator of A View from the Jeweler’s Bench: Ancient Treasures, Contemporary Statements.

Public Education Course: Highlights in the History of Graphic Design
April 1-April 29 at 7:00 pm
Highlights in the History of Graphic Design is five-week public education course beginning on April 1, meeting every Monday in April. Week One focuses on the Wiener Werkstätte (Viennese Workshops), 1903-1932; Week Two, The Bauhaus; Week Three, American Corporations and Countercultures: Postwar Graphic Design; Week Four, Politics and Culture in Latin American Graphic Design. The course concludes with Computer as Tool, Computer as Medium: Design after 1980. To learn more or to register click here.

The 23rd Annual Iris Awards will be presented on April 17 in New York City.
Created in 1997, Bard Graduate Center’s Iris Awards recognize scholars, patrons, and professionals who have made outstanding contributions to the study and appreciation of the decorative arts.
This year’s honorees are arts supporter Marina Kellen French, Outstanding Patron; scholar and former Metropolitan Museum of Art curator Jeffrey Munger, Outstanding Lifetime Achievement; Dr. Laurie Wilkie, Outstanding Mid-Career Scholar; and well-known Italian art dealer Alessandra Di Castro, Outstanding Dealer.
