March 6, 2019

Dear Students, Families, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of ASB School,

A few days ago, Pope Francis tweeted, “In order to pray well, we need to have the heart of a child.”  Today is Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the Lenten season and our journey towards the death and resurrection of Jesus.  As our third graders beautifully led mass and our fourth graders beautifully led a prayer service for the younger students, I could not help but think of the Pope’s tweet.  Our students do such a wonderful job modeling the openness, sincerity, and wonder of prayer.  As we begin Lent, a time focused on fasting, prayer, and generosity of spirit, let us be inspired by our children and open our hearts to what this season may bring.

In today’s envelope, your family will receive your Lenten Rice Bowl for Catholic Relief Services.  Over the 40 days of the Lenten season, your family is invited to participate in the CRS Rice Bowl program. Through our donations and offering, we can provide support to our community and the people of the world who are hungry and in need. We are reminded that whenever we feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty or welcome the stranger, we are encountering the Risen Christ.

Please say a special prayer for our 5th graders as they head out to camp today.  May they stay warm, dry, and have a wonderful experience!

We look forward to seeing you at conferences next week.  This is a great time to meet and reset goals and expectations as we look towards the final trimester of the year.

Congratulations to 7th grader Kris Sekhar! Not only did Kris win our school Geography Bee, he has now qualified to continue on to the Washington State Geography Bee at the end of this month.  Well done, Kris! We are so proud of you!

Camp ASB 2019 Registration is now OPEN!

Click HERE to download the registration forms

Camp ASB registration forms are now available.  We are still working on the summer calendar, and that information will not be available until around the start of April. However, registration forms and camp dates are now official and we are ready to start accepting registration forms.

This summer, Camp ASB will return to its traditional schedule.  We will be open for 7 weeks in June and July, with the month of August closed for maintenance and faculty in-service work.  We are anticipating construction activities over the course of the summer, and the same cautiousness in which we entered last summer will also guide our plans for this summer.  As we plan for this coming summer, we are always looking to add more activities and new experiences to our schedule, as well as trying to shape our program to best meet the needs of all of our families.  In this regard, we are planning on revising our Camp ASB policies on the use of personal electronics.  We still want to allow students to have freedom and choice in their summer experience, but we also want to respect those families that limit screen time or have specific rules about screen time.  We will have more information on our new plan, when everything is finalized.

I am also happy to announce that Camp ASB will again be partnering with Hoopaholics Basketball to offer a Camp ASB Basketball Camp the week of July 22-26. 2019.

The full Camp ASB calendar and KinderCamp information for 2019 will be available by the beginning of April.
