Hello and welcome to the Family Business Bulletin! Look out for more of our fabulous workshops, following on from the success of the one hosted last month by Nicholas Lee! Please come and join us soon, it would be fantastic to see you there!
In January we launched a new opportunity for our Practice members; One-hour workshops with the proceeds going to our nominated charity partner, Edwards Trust.
The first one was a great success, so much so we will now run a series during the coming year, so can I steer you to the next one that is being run by Nicholas Lee. This is a repeat of the first one which was very well received and worth your consideration and all for a worthy cause!
How can a family business gain a competitive advantage?
I am asked this question all the time – by both family businesses and non-family businesses. The former is invariably (but not exclusively) looking to do one of three things; create more time, lessen stress or make more money. The latter is because many non-family businesses simply don’t believe there is a difference – surely it is just a business, like any other, they often ask! And with one simple question and rhetorical answer it explains how a family business can gain a competitive advantage, simply by being a family business!!!
There are several world renowned surveys that show statistically and irrefutably that there are a number of advantages to being a family business – most of all when you shout about it from the rooftops!
So there you have it! Gain a comparative advantage by being a family business... and telling everyone about it!It's a little simplistic but it does have a lot of truth to it. Don’t hide your truth, you are a family business and proud… you will be surprised how much of an advantage it will give you!
If you are unsure how to take advantage of this, you know where I am and I would love to help!
Until the next time
Peter

You may have seen the story on the BBC about Tony Foulds, who has been tending a memorial to a fallen second world war flight crew in his home town. The story is remarkable and the response to his wishes was wonderful. Do just take a couple of minutes out to watch this and salute a wonderful man. You may have a tear in the eye, but it will be worth it!
