Set in 1968 Memphis, Tennessee, Duane Boutté's THE BETTER PROPHECY vividly presents a sanitation worker and his wife struggling to make ends meet and maintain dignity in the face of relentless racial injustice.  They represent a community whose plight against intimidation resonates far and wide, attracting a daring Visionary from Atlanta who seeks to harness the increasingly potent local energy for the betterment of the nation.

Duane Boutté is a NY based actor, composer, and director.  His musical theatre collaborations include scores for Caravaggio Chiaroscuro (LaMama Etc.), Lyin' Up a Breeze (Second Stage, Fresno), and Bottoms Up: A Musicommedia (A.C.T.F. Award).  Boutté wrote the book and music for the one-act Thanks to the Lighthouse (New York City Parks and Recreation).  In addition to The Better Prophecy, he is currently writing his first full-length musical (untitled) as both composer and librettist.  Boutté's directing credits include L.O.L. (Algonquin Productions), Home (Rep Stage), Stalag 17 (Second Stage, Fresno), The Merry Wives of Windsor (Worcester Shakespeare Festival), Othello (Stella Adler Studio), Cabaret, and Fences (Illinois State University).  His acting credits include the landmark films Stonewall (1996 version), and Brother To Brother.  He has acted on Broadway (Carousel ['94] and Parade), Off-Broadway (Playwrights Horizons, Primary Stages, Public Theatre, Vineyard Theatre), and at regional theatres throughout the country.  Among his favorite roles performed are "Bayard Rustin" (Public Theatre, Woolley Mammoth, Berkeley Rep), "Orestes" (Berkeley Rep), "Mercutio" (Oregon Shakespeare Festival), "Louis Chauvin" (Playwrights Horizons), and "Charles Dickens" (Primary Stages, Cherry Lane Theater). He has taught acting at Illinois State University, Ramapo College, and the National Theatre Institute.   Website:  DuaneBoutte.com
