Strength For The Day!

"The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him." -Psalm 28:7

Whatever the day brings you, he'll be your power and he'll be your protection.  That's his promise!  Keep your head up high and your heart in his hands.

It's a great day for a great day!
Jesus is Our Glorious Savior!
Transfiguration Sunday

Scripture says that Jesus only shone with glory once before his resurrection. That was on a high hill, where Peter, James, and John had a terrifying look at Jesus’ perfect glory. One reason Jesus did it was to give his disciples a glimpse at what the future holds for all believers. The Twelve were about to enter a difficult time. They would see their Messiah crucified, but in the end they would also see that Jesus is our glorious Savior.
This Sunday's Topic/Idol: : POLITICS
(continued from last Sunday)

What’s the main problem with the world? Think carefully.

If you suggest that something other than sin is the main problem with the world, you’ll almost inevitably end up falsely asserting that something not inherently bad is, in fact, evil. Furthermore, if you insinuate that something other than Jesus is the answer to the world’s problem, you’ll end up foolishly “idolizing” something that is not inherently good.

For many people, this is the case when it comes to political ideology. It doesn’t take too much imagination to see how a good thing, like patriotism, if turned into an ultimate thing (that is, idolized), can turn into racism and imperialism.

Lets learn together what God has to say!
See you Sunday at 8:30 am!

2019 WELS Front-Range Basketball Tournament.
The date is Saturday, March 16 (in the afternoon this year).  It will be held at St. Charles Rec. Center (3777 N Lafayette St, Denver, CO 80205).  It's a Co-Ed tournament so anyone high school age or older is welcome to play.  We need to confirm our spot by this Monday soon so please let Pastor Dave know if you are interested in playing ASAP.  Email or Text are fine (pastor@livingsavior.net or 720-949-8644).
Time in the Word is always well spent.  In fact, it is essential for the spiritual health of every Christian.

Set the tone for the day.
Gain the proper perspective on life.
Find strength for the challenges you face.
Drink in real peace that lasts.
Listen to the one who knows you better than anyone tell you what you need to hear.

There is a devotion for everyone for everyday HERE.
Some in the early Christian church marked a period of fasting for forty days before Easter that followed the celebration of Jesus’ baptism and recalled his forty days of fasting and testing in the wilderness. The Council of Nicea (A.D.325) mentions an undefined forty-day period; but it was not until the seventh century that in Rome the Wednesday in the seventh week before Easter marked the beginning of the season. The Sundays in Lent were not counted as part of the forty days since they were not fast days but “little Easters,” celebrations of Jesus’ resurrection. That Wednesday became known as Ash Wednesday.

The cross made of ashes represents two things:

First, ashes have long been used as a symbol of mourning. In Biblical times, people would express grief by sitting in ashes. The ashes express sadness that we have sinned against God. We are sinful from birth, and this shows itself in my life in thoughts, words and actions that go against what God has commanded. The ashes symbolize how we acknowledge and confess our sins to God.

Second, notice that the ashes are in the shape of a cross. This reminds me that Jesus Christ gave up his life  on a Roman cross. By doing this, Jesus took the guilt of our sins upon himself. The shape of the cross reminds us that God has completely and freely forgiven our sins, based on the work of Jesus Christ.

We'll observe these truths with a special service on March 6th at 7pm.

If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness.   (Psalm 130:3,4)
Ash Wednesday is just around the corner when once again we will join together to observe the beginning of the Lenten season. Before that first service, a soup supper will be held down in the fellowship hall.  All are welcome.  There is a sign up sheet in the lobby, on the table under the picture board, for those who wish to help provide this meal.  Soup, sandwiches and desserts are requested. Thank you for your help.

Remember in Prayer...
  • Daniel Greene (grandson of Donna Greene) - Daniel was in a severe car accident.  He is continuing to recover at Craig in Denver.
  • Miah Moore - Experiencing burdensome back pain.
  • Pam Griffin (Morning Westerberg's mother) - Battling cancer. Pray that the Lord might open her heart that she might see the light of God's love in Jesus.
  • Family of Lorraine Gordero -  (friend of Chris and Jamie Collyard) Lorraine was called to victory at her Savior's side this past week after a difficult battle with cancer.
  • Merlin Camrud - Experiencing significant pain and challenges related to his physical health.
Don't forget to pray for the work we are able to do together as part of the WELS (Wisconsin Ev. Lutheran Synod). Here is a suggestion:
  • East Asia – Heavenly Father, there are millions of people living in East Asia who are in spiritual darkness. Governments in these areas make it challenging to carry out your Son’s Great Commission. Yet we praise your name for the 150 new souls who have received the blessing of forgiveness in baptism in the past two years. Be with the five national pastors and other spiritual leaders as they serve 7 congregations and 11 church plants. Protect them and give them boldness to proclaim your name, so that the light of the gospel will create faith in many more people. Amen.
Prayer request? Email Pastor Koelpin.
