Eating Disorders Awareness & Black History Month
Welcome students, faculty, staff, y amigxs to the sixth edition of the monthly Aliento e-updates for this academic year!
Each month we provide updates, links, community events and resources while highlighting a mental health cause. This issue focuses on eating disorder awareness within the Latinx community. We also want to make space to honor Black History Month and the contributions afro-latinx's have made in our Latin American history.

We cannot deny that afro culture underlines many of our latin american staple foods, music and traditions. However, more often than not, afro-latinos do not get any of the credit they deserve, nor is their presence acknowledged in our countries. The articles below not only highlight the comtemporary existence of afro-latinx, but also provide an example of how the erasure of afro-latinx has happened over time.

Palabras from our Director

"It is hard to unlearn that which has been ingrained, but it is a necessary outcome if we are going to change the discourse and combat the cycles of oppression and modern day forms of colonization."
