THIRD EDITION: Claymobile this spring!

Looking forward to summer time and outdoor festivals!
The school year is rapidly coming to a close, but don't worry, Claymobile runs all summer long! You can find us at summer camps throughout the city providing Claymobile residencies to Philadelphia youth and at several different community festivals (check out of festival list below)! We'll be returning to many of our partners from last summer like the Salvation Army summer camps, while also making connections with new partners like the Jane Addams Place Shelter and Grace Trinity Academy. If you are interested in bringing Claymobile to your summer camp, please fill out our partnership form. There are only a few spots left! And, don't forget that The Clay Studio also has weekly summer camps on site at our Old City location!

Spotlight: Claymobile Festivals
The Claymobile is known for providing workshops and residencies at Philadelphia schools, community centers, social service agencies and more, but we can also be found throughout the city at local festivals and events. So far this spring we participated in two Philadelphia Science Festival events, Science in the Park at Hunting Park and the Fishtown Science Crawl! During these events we created Claymation videos that were posted to our YouTube page using Plasticine clay and stop-motion animation on iPads. We also made community planters at Spruce Street Harbor Park for their Day of Color - check out our awesome planters in the photo above. And, in early May we hung out with our Claymobile friends at the Philadelphia Children's Festival. If you haven't seen us out in your community yet, please check out an upcoming event with us this summer. Below is a list of the events on our schedule so far, we hope to see you there!

Saturday, June 1, 1 pm - 3 pm - Scientific Phanatic Fun Fair at the Nicetown CDC - Group Sculpt volcanos

Need a refresher? Here’s how Claymobile can partner with your school or organization.
Claymobile began at The Clay Studio in 1994 as a way to engage with our Philadelphia community through the medium of clay. Since then, Claymobile has grown tremendously. Today we partner with schools, community centers, social services agencies, and more for in-school programming, out-of-school programming, and events! We are committed to making arts learning opportunities accessible to all because we have seen time and time again how working with clay nurtures imagination, critical thinking, and persistence in everyone from kindergarteners to senior citizens.

Claymobile functions in a several different ways, such as one-time workshops or residencies. Each workshop consists of a 90-minutes ceramics lesson in which participants hand-build and glaze a clay project. Then, we bring the projects back to our studio where they are fired in the kiln and delivered back to students at a later date. Then there are residencies, our favorite ways to engage with Claymobile sites! Residencies last anywhere from 6- to 12-weeks (or the entire year), consisting of a 90-minute ceramics lesson once a week for the duration of the program. For residencies, we love to collaborate with classroom teachers to link our Claymobile lessons with what the students are learning in the classroom, but are also happy to let our talented team of teaching artist lead the way with a variety of creative projects from their repertoire.

Claymobile is also happy to join your event! For large scale events we offer Claymation, group sculpt, or special projects to engage your event participants! AND, if something from this list doesn’t quite fit the build, we are happy to discuss other possibilities!
