World Compliment Day

Started in 2011, according to the creators of World Compliment Day, each participant is to give compliments to at least three people. The holiday contrasts with some other major holidays in that it is not commercially oriented, but emotionally oriented.

Art Inspiration

My art inspiration suggestion for this newsletter are the 2019 QuiltCon winners. Once you've had the opportunity to take in the winners, another great source of inspiration and beauty to peruse is the #QuiltCon hashtag.

QuiltCon & Family, Part 1

My parents live about an hour and a half to the east of Nashville, so my father took the opportunity to drive over on Saturday morning to get a look at the show. It was nice to have him see my quilts in person (he is standing beside See Right Through Me and matching it perfectly above). And I think he might have been a little bit surprised by how many people stopped to chat with me or recognized me while we took a few minutes together to walk the show.

QuiltCon & Family, Part 2

My mom not only attended QuiltCon, she was there early to help as a volunteer to set up the show, and she participated in a group that created this beautiful charity quilt. How awesome is her contributing block that she is proudly showing off?!?

Transparency Quilt Design Workshop

The highlight of QuiltCon for me this year was getting the opportunity to teach my Transparency Quilt Design Workshop on Sunday morning. It was a treat to get to spend my morning sharing about a topic I love. We discussed general pattern design with an emphasis on what elements are needed for an effective transparency quilt.
My good friend Cheryl, of Meadow Mist Designs, offered to help me during my workshop on Sunday morning and I cannot thank her enough for her time. She took photos of the class during the workshop for me and I always leave wishing I had been able to spend more time visiting with her!

QuiltCon 2019: Wrap-Up

Whew, the crew worked hard this year at QuiltCon. QuiltCon is made possible by the smiling faces (plus a few others who needed to leave earlier) you see in the above photo. It's a small group that I am happy to call my QuiltCon family.

Personally, I helped co-run the workshops, I had fun helping to get the large quilts hung for the show, and we all did a million other small things needed to make QuiltCon happen. It was an honor to help put the show on for all the attendees.

I did come home with strep throat, though, so all the plans I thought I had in place for this week have been put aside in favor of lots of rest and recuperation.

Happy March, everyone, and I hope we have a great month ahead!
