Dear Austin RPCVs,
This week the Peace Corps community around the globe is celebrating the 58th anniversary of the agency's establishment. Recognized annually as Peace Corps Week, it is a chance for our community to share service memories and celebrate the amazing work that has come from President Kennedy's legacy program. It is also a week for action and education and I wanted to share some of the ways the Heart of Texas Peace Corps Association continues to engage.
This year's Peace Corps Week Theme is "A day in the life..." Here are some ways you can share the story of your daily life in service and promote continued service for future generations.
- Share your photos from service on social media or in a blog. Use #PeaceCorpsWeek and tag our group @HoTPCA. Check out some of the photos we've been sharing from our local members--we'd love to share yours too!
- Write your representative and tell them your personal experience of how the money Congress budgets for Peace Corps impacts positive changes at home and abroad.
- Start a conversation or join one! One-on-one, in a classroom, or at an event, sharing Peace Corps happens at all levels and you can sign up with the Speaker Match Program which aims to fulfill the Peace Corp's Third Goal to increase Americans' understanding of other peoples and cultures.
HoTPCA engages with RPCVs, future volunteers, and service minded individuals and organization throughout the year. We'd love to have you come out to any of our 30+ annual events, join a committee, help fund and apply for a HoTPCA grant, attend the HoTPCA hosted national Conference in June, or just check out our sweet new website.
