Parshas Ki Sisa - Shvi'i with Rashi

Hashem told Moshe Rabbeinu to write down all the things He said, but not the explanations! The words Hashem said are part of the Torah Shebichsav, but the explanations are Torah Shebaal Peh which needs to be learned by heart. (Only much later did the Chachomim write it down so Yidden wouldn’t forget).
Moshe stayed on Har Sinai for 40 days and nights, and didn’t eat or drink. His Guf became so holy that he was like a malach who doesn’t NEED to eat!
On Yom Kippur, Hashem forgave the Yidden and wrote the words on the luchos.
Moshe came down that day from Har Sinai, carrying the new luchos. Moshe didn’t realize that since he had become so holy, his face was shining! The Yidden were afraid to come close to him! (Before the aveira, they were able to even see Hashem’s kavod, but now they weren’t able to look at Moshe’s face shining with kedusha, without being afraid. This shows us the strong effect that an aveira has on a Yid.)
Because of this, Moshe would have to TELL them to come and learn Torah. First Aharon would come, and Moshe would teach him. Then Aharon’s sons would come also, and Moshe would teach it again. Then the leaders would come too, and Moshe taught it again. Finally, all of the Yidden would come and hear the Torah Moshe was teaching.
After he finished teaching, Moshe would wear a veil (like a mask!) over his face, so they could look at him without being scared.
When Moshe left, Aharon would teach everyone the new halachos over again, and then he would leave too. Then Aharon’s sons would teach it over again, and leave. Finally, the leaders of the Yidden would repeat the Torah, so that all of the Yidden heard it 4 times.
Moshe would wear the veil all the time, except when he went to talk to Hashem and then to go teach the Yidden the new Torah he heard.

One of the things it talks about in Kapitel Pey-Tes is how Hashem gave the melucha (the special job to be the Yiddishe kings) to Dovid Hamelech and his children. “Zaro Le’olam Yihiyeh” — “his children will be forever.”
Now we don’t have any Yiddishe king, so what happens to Hashem’s promise?
Moshiach comes from Dovid Hamelech, so Hashem’s promise to Dovid Hamelech really does go forever! We will see that our king Moshiach comes from the family of Dovid!

The Alter Rebbe is showing us how it’s possible for a person to truly feel humble before ANY person.
By looking at a person that we think is such a rasha, we see how the situation he is in makes the fight with the Yetzer Hara very very hard! It’s a real nisayon!
Now we need to ask ourselves: Am I winning over MY nisyonos when they are as hard as his?
For example, it is a big nisayon to wake up every morning and prepare for davening and daven properly. We have a lot of excuses! I woke up late, there was no more cereal, my friends aren’t davening with kavana, there were too many exciting things happening in shul, I wasn’t in the mood…
But guess what? He has those excuses too!
He was tired, his friends do those aveiros too, there are all these exciting things happening and it’s hard to miss out, he’s not in the mood to do mitzvos…
If we compare our nisyonos to those of a big rasha, we see that we don’t have anything to be proud of. We should be very humble!
This feeling humble will take away the Yetzer Hara’s block on our heart, and will allow us to have zerizus in our Avodas Hashem and have koach to overcome the Yetzer Hara and do what we need to do.

Did you know that if you drink grape juice and eat pomegranates, you need to make a special Bracha Acharona? There are different words to say if you drink wine or grape juice, or if you eat fruit that’s part of the Shiva Minim. In today’s Hayom Yom, the Rebbe makes sure we’re saying this bracha the right way!
If we drink wine and eat fruit that are from the Shiva Minim, be careful at the end of the Bracha Acharona! We say “Baruch Ata Hashem, Al Pri Hagafen VE’hapeiros.”

Today we learn the same mitzvah as yesterday again: (Mitzvas Asei #49) This is a mitzvah with a lot of details — we need to do the WHOLE Avodah of Yom Kippur, exactly like it says in the Torah!
We also learn a new mitzvah (from the new section in Rambam, Hilchos Me’ilah):
(Mitzvas Asei #118) If someone ate from a korban or Terumah, he needs to return the amount that he ate, plus an extra fifth.
We learn this mitzvah from a posuk in Parshas Vayikra: וְאֵת אֲשֶׁר חָטָא מִן הַקֹּדֶשׁ יְשַׁלֵּם וְאֶת חֲמִישִׁתוֹ יוֹסֵף עָלָיו
The details of this mitzvah are explained in Mesechta Me’ilah and Mesechta Terumos.

RAMBAM
Hilchos Avodas Yom HaKipurim - Me'ilah

In today's Rambam, we learn more about the special Avodah of Yom Kippur. Then we start a NEW section in Rambam, about Me’ilah — what to do if we use something that was set aside for Hashem, which is not allowed.
Perek Daled: Now the Rambam tells us the seder of the day of Yom Kippur.
Perek Hey: We learn what happens if the Avodah was done in the wrong order, or if something wasn’t done exactly like it says in the Torah.
Perek Alef: In the first perek of Hilchos Me’ilah, the Rambam explains what me’ilah is: using something that was set aside for Hashem, which we are not allowed to do. One of the things the Rambam talks about is using the wool of an animal that is hekdesh, and when this is considered Me’ilah.

This perek talks about what can make the korban for Shavuos (Shtei Halechem), Lechem Hapanim, or Korban Todah posul.

In this week’s parsha, we learn about the Machatzis Hashekel. In many sichos, the Rebbe explains why Hashem only asked for a half, a Machatzis. One reason is that it shows that the Aibershter and the Yidden are one — the Aibershter does half, and a Yid does the other half. Together, we are partners in making a Dira Betachtonim!
In a farbrengen, the Rebbe explained that this partnership helps us understand why our shlichus in the world needs to come through Avodah — tremendous effort:
We know what our job in the world is — to learn Torah and do mitzvos and bring Moshiach closer!
But then why did Hashem make it so hard? Why are there always so many things that get in the way of us doing the right thing?
It can’t be because of Golus, or because of our aveiros — because Hashem wanted Adam Harishon to work hard too, even before he did any aveiros! The posuk says that Adam Harishon was put into Gan Eden “Le’avda Uleshamra” — to WORK and guard it!
Rashi also tells us that Hashem took the Yidden out of Mitzrayim for a reason: “Ta’avdun Es Ha’Elokim Al HaHar Hazeh” — to WORK in their serving Hashem!
And in Iyov, it says that “Adam La’amal Yulad” — every person was created to do hard work!
It’s true that we feel better about getting things we deserve, and then we wouldn’t appreciate our lives as Yidden if it was too easy, with no challenges. But that’s because Hashem made us that way! He could have made us in a way that we WOULD feel good even to get Yiddishkeit for free.
The Rebbe explains to us that Hashem wants to give the BEST to a Yid. And the very best thing is to be able to be a partner to Hashem in the world! That way we have the special zechus to be working TOGETHER with Hashem, the Creator of the whole world!
To be a partner, you need to do your part. That’s why we need to have avodah, to work. That’s OUR part in using our Torah and mitzvos to make the world comfortable for Hashem. Sometimes it can be hard for us, but only by using all of our kochos can we be a true partner with Hashem!

In Mincha of Shabbos, we say “Uva Letziyon.” During the week, we say this after Shmoneh Esrei in Shacharis, but because Shabbos davening is so long already, the Chachomim moved it to Mincha.
We also read the Torah before Shemoneh Esrei. Ezra from the Anshei Knesses Hagedolah made this takana because there are some Yidden who aren’t so interested to come hear the Torah being read on Monday and Thursday in Shul. Since they come to Shul on Shabbos, he said that we should make another Torah reading at Mincha for them. We say a posuk from Tehillim first (V’ani Sefilasi, from Kapitel Samech-Tes) — that teaches us how special and important this takana is for all Yidden.

It is the minhag not to say “Good Shabbos” after Mincha time on Shabbos.
This is because at Mincha time on Shabbos is when Moshe Rabbeinu, Yosef Hatzadik, and Dovid Hamelech passed away. (This is also why we say the 3 pesukim of Tzidkoscha after Shemoneh Esrei during Shabbos Mincha, for these three tzadikim.)

When Moshe Rabbeinu was born, Yidden were very happy. Among each other, they spoke about the fact that Amram, the Jewish leader of the time, had a baby boy Moshe!
When Moshe was taken to Paraoh’s palace, the Yidden were very worried. Their holy leader Amram’s son was taken away!
When Moshe ran away from Mitzrayim, Yidden didn’t forget about him. They always remembered him and spoke about him, until Hashem had Rachmonus and listened to what the Yidden were davening for. Then the Geulah came through Moshe Rabbeinu.
The same is true with this last Golus. We need to constantly talk about and think about Moshiach, and he will come!
