CHURCH NEWS
Cornerstone Café is open Monday to Friday 10am-4pm, and Saturday 10:30am-5pm.

Cornerstone Bookshop is open Mon-Sat, 10:00am-5.30pm.

Scottish Country Dancing: weekly on Sundays at 7:15pm after Evensong.

Holy Dusters takes place on the second Thursday of each month.

Our next bicentenary preacher will be the Rt Revd & Rt Hon Rowan Williams, 104th Archbishop of Canterbury. Bishop Williams will preach at the 10:30am service on the first Sunday of Lent, 10 March 2019. All are welcome … bring a friend!

During Lent, we are planning to hold a discussion group on Wednesday mornings after the
11.00am service (11.45- 12.45). This year’s book ‘The Merciful Humility of God’, by Jane Williams. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Eileen Thompson (eileencthompson@gmail.com).

UPCOMING EVENTS

Christian Aid Gathering on Tuesday 26th February, 10am -1pm. A chance to meet the Christian
Aid staff and other supporters and to learn about how the money raised is spent tackling the key issues such as poverty and climate change. The country manager from Sierra Leone will join us to explain and celebrate the work there.
Copies of the “Count your Blessings” guide for Lent, will be available by mid-February - always a stimulating way of matching Lenten prayer and action

World Day of Prayer, is taking place on Friday 1st March at St Andrew’s & St George West, 1pm.

The Marmalade Market will be held on Sunday March 3rd after the 10.30 Eucharist. Please bring your jars of marmalade, jam, chutney, lemon curd etc, and any home baking through to the Cornerstone hall before the service, and then come and buy during the coffee break after the service.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Party, 5th March 7.30pm, Cornerstone Cafe – Delicious pancakes and excellent entertainment from the Choir in the Cornerstone Cafe. Tickets available from members of the Social Committee during coffee today! (£5 adult, £3.50 child).

Ash Wednesday, 6 March 2019: Holy Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes at 11am & 7:30pm.

Church walks: Thursday walk on 7th March, “The Old Kirk Trail” Circular walk around Edinburgh’s Churches starting and ending at St Giles. For details see porch.

The Rt Revd & Rt Hon Rowan Williams, 104th Archbishop of Canterbury will preach at St John’s at the 10:30am Eucharist on the first Sunday of Lent, 10 March 2019.

Dr Patricia Andrew, a NADFAS / BICENTARY LECTURE/Arts Society lecturer, will give a talk on St John’s: a changing visual presence 1818-2018, on Monday, 11 March @ 7:30pm followed by a wine reception. Tickets available on Sunday 24th or at the office next week.

Bridge Evening: to be held on Thursday 28th March at 6.30pm in the Cornerstone Centre in aid of Church funds. £25 per head. Application forms from members of the organising committee (Colin McEachran, Mo Grant, Grace Durham; and Vicki Reid Thomas).

David Todd, Arts Project Leader for Greenside Parish Church in partnership with ECCCT, is showing the film “Life is Beautiful” at St Andrew’s & St George’s West Church at 7pm on Wednesday 27th March. All are welcome.

May 5: last bicentenary pulpit with our own very own bishop (the Rt Rvd John Armes). This will also be Anthony Hammond’s (our new Director of Music) first Sunday (please keep him and his wife Helen in your prayers in this time of transition).
