There is a right way to hang your toilet paper. Do you put your tp on the right way? What is the "right" way? Hang it over, under, or just sit it sideways on the holder?

I have found that most people do have a preference, but over hangers have a much higher level of unease if it is not done their way. Some over hangers even admit to changing an under hanging roll to overhanging at someone else’s house – that’s commitment.

Are you able to get along with people who don’t do it the right way? Are you able to have peaceful conversations with them? Surely, with such a big separation in beliefs (and common toilet paper etiquette), there isn’t enough common ground to be able to work together.

Or is there? Think of your friends (maybe acquaintances), you already know someone who hangs their toilet paper "wrong." Do you still like them? Are they capable of producing any good in this world?

Think about Paul and Barnabas. These two men were on a missionary journey together with John Mark, when he decided to return home to Jerusalem. Later on Paul and Barnabas are about to go on another journey and Barnabas suggests taking John Mark with them again. Paul says “no,” Barnabas says “yes,” and the two agreed to split up and not work together anymore. This contention is greater than which way your toilet paper is facing, but is the most common theme that Satan uses to distract Jesus followers. Keep them separate!

If Satan can convince us that the difference is big enough then separation occurs. Jesus knew (knows) this. He prayed in John 17:20-21,

“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.”

Circling back to Paul and Barnabas, they didn’t let a disagreement keep them from sharing the Message. Even though they took separate paths, Paul later refers kindly to Barnabas (1 Corinthians 9). Paul even specifically asks for Mark to join him, saying that Mark is helpful in his ministry (2 Timothy 4:11).

Jesus wants those who follow Him to be one “so the world might believe” that God sent Him. I encourage you to find someone that doesn’t believe exactly what you believe and visit with them. Listen to them, don’t argue, don’t debate, just try to understand. If all of Jesus’ followers will commit to being one, then The World Might Believe.
