Grow Your Mind: Inquiring About Black History // Rechercher l'histoire des Noirs

Sunday, February 24th 10:30am
Dimanche 24 février 10h30

On this fourth Sunday of the month, we'll be learning about figures from Black History, including the abolitionist Frederick Douglass, who influenced many early Unitarian and Universalist thinkers.

Our guest musical presenter, Floydd Rickets, will be leading the Time for All Ages this Sunday, and sharing stories about the secret codes embedded in many of the songs of the African American struggle for liberation, commonly called Spirituals.
Next RE Lunch
Sunday March 10th

Join our whole community for a soup & bread lunch after church.  Your contributions of nut-free desserts are always appreciated!!

The RE Lunch is a gift to our community for which there is no cost.  There is often soup left over at the end of the meal - bring a container to take some home!
The Prayground in the Sanctuary is a spot for kids to have a great view of the service - please consider sitting as a family nearby!  We hope you enjoy the theme materials to go along with our services - please feel free to keep any colouring sheets or story pages your kids create.
This Week in Youth Group

No youth group meeting this week - please remain in the sanctuary and enjoy the music and discussion around the tradition of African American Spiritual songs.
What do you see in this piece of contemporary Black artist Jayson Musson?  (it's called Stephaney, Del, May, and Susan and it was created in 2016, using cotton fabric)
Last Week
Growing and Changing
Grandir et changer

Last Sunday we worked on one of our important scientific skills: observation.  We learned that we can observe other things and people, but we can also observe ourselves!

We observed our own reactions to a collection of abstract artwork - some of us saw natural phenomena like rain, rivers, flowers, and birds.  Some of us saw much sillier things than that!
Follow Up
Observe Your Neighbourhood

One important thing that scientists try to do is to observe the world around it, while not causing any changes (though they know that sometimes, just observing something can change the outcome!).  This week, why not head out into your neighbourhood and look for artistic expression around you?  It might be in the form of street art, cool posters, or the architecture of the buildings you see.  I can't wait to hear about what you observe!!
