As we move forward as NACEB I feel I need to start off by looking back. I'd like to thank Wes Daberkow and the rest of the Board of Directors for their leadership and guidance. Not just for me but for everything they do for all the County Extension Boards. Our future success at NACEB will be determined by the leaders of past. The opportunity that is ahead of us is tremendous; Officers, Board and Members can work collaboratively to make our advocacy for Nebraska Extension a success.

Thank You for Your Continued Advocacy

This has been an historic month for the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. On February 15, we celebrated our 150thanniversary of the university’s founding. What an incredible week of celebrations! Included in our celebratory week was the 2019 NACEB Legislative Day. On February 13, there was tremendous turn out of our Extension Board members who stormed the capitol and met with their senators, and we truly appreciate your efforts.
For over a decade, the Nebraska Association of County Extension Boards has been advocating on behalf of the university, especially Nebraska Extension. Your voice is critical. At this historical moment in our university’s history, we are especially grateful for your support.
The University of Nebraska’s budget hearing before the Appropriation Committee is one week away. It’s not too late to continue your advocacy. Our hearing isn’t just an opportunity to make our case for the state’s investment in our 52,000 students and Nebraska’s economic growth. It’s also a chance for Nebraskans to show senators how much you care about the future of the university and our state.

NU Letter Writing Campaign

If you were at the recent NACEB Legislative Day event in Lincoln you will recall encouragement to write to “Senator Stinner and members of the Appropriations Committee” in support of the NU budget. It’s important for this committee to hear from alumni and friends who support Nebraska Extension and the NU system! NU is requesting funding increases of 3% and 3.7% in the next two years. See additional NU budget talking points below.
Letters should be emailed as attachments to Erin Cooper ecooper@nebraska.edu Your letters will be compiled and presented to members of the Appropriations Committee at the NU budget hearing on March 4. Remember, the most effective messages will be those that briefly explain your personal connection to the University and your thoughts on why an affordable, accessible, high-quality University is vital to Nebraska’s future. Share your Extension story!
This opportunity is not only for Extension board members, but is also available to 4-H Council Members and other supporters of Extension, IANR, UNL and NU.
Please take a few minutes to draft your letter and email it no later than this Thursday.
