We recently caught up with Kerri Linden, whose Tannery studio exemplifies the term "mixed media." Her paintings, collages, jewelry, and many other art forms can be found at Studio 116 at the Tannery.
How did you come to have a studio at the Tannery?
A year and a half ago I shared a studio at the Tannery, then finally got my own studio in January. This is my dream, to have a space like this. I constantly change the front window of my studio, and make it something that's like a living art experiment.
What's the best part of working at the Tannery?
My studio is across from the dance studio, and I find this environment very inspiring. I just love the freedom of expression, I get glimpses of dance, I hear the music, I see the kids coming and going, practicing outside.
How does your background in fashion design inform your artwork?
I worked in fashion and fashion accessories after working in textile design at Esprit De Corps, and then I started my own jewelry design business using beads primarily, and it really took off. Once I had children, I started painting and making quilts. I've also always been drawn to collage with maps, old books, and catalogues. My studio at the Tannery is the perfect venue for me to showcase all of that. It's a combination of everything I've done.
