Today – Wool From Bisons.
The wool of the American bison surviving in the national parks is no longer to go to waste. It will be clipped, the bisons permitting and made into clothing for the park rangers. In national parks, laws protect bisons, deer and other animals from their enemies, the wolves, and men. There would be no lack of wool, no lack of meat if the government all over the country would protect sheep from their enemies, the dogs. In one state sheep farming is given up almost entirely in order that foolish individuals may have the pleasure of owning 400,000 dogs, useless, except to flatter their masters by pretending to think them superior.

MONTANA
THE WEST
WFSB-TV in Anchorage did not explain how the hefty moose gained entry to the hospital, but it showed a video of it strolling through the waiting room. The animal snacked on some of the room’s potted plants — “Oh, he’s hungry,” an employee guessed — then turned around and moseyed out the open front door.
In Montana, a similar story involved a bison named “Tonto the Buffalo,” which escaped from a backyard pen in the Bitterroot Valley. Walking at a “leisurely pace,” reports KPAX-TV, Tonto visited backyards until his owner appeared, whereupon the bison “followed his owner back home.”
- YELLOWSTONE LIVE: In the greater Yellowstone ecosystem, for the first time, live, we will be fitting cameras to America’s heaviest land mammal. “Bison Cam” will offer a unique perspective on the life of this awesome, iconic animal. We’ll also employ a unique, “Burrow Cam” to bring live footage of prairie dogs in their underground homes. Elsewhere in this magnificent wilderness, the latest state-of-the-art technology will reveal lives of Yellowstone’s wildlife in intimate detail. We’ll be following beavers inside their lodges, bald eagles and their young on in their nest, and many other animals as they emerge from their brutal winter.

The case for cows is not just a bunch of bull
The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
I got to wondering how much manure a buffalo produced every day. Being a parasitologist, I have always considered myself somewhat of an expert on manure. I'm not as good as lawyers, of course, but better than most physicians. So it was surprising how difficult it was to find information on buffalo manure on the internet. However, there is comparable information for cows and other grazing animals of various kinds.

Bill taps into the Wild and Domestic side of bison.
The Montana House of Representatives approved a bill Monday that clarifies the definition of “wild bison” and "wild buffalo." Mont. Judge Tosses NEPA Suit Over Yellowstone Bison
Bozeman Daily
February 21, 2019, A Montana federal judge on Wednesday tossed a suit by a conservation group claiming the federal and ..A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Justice said the agency “is pleased with the court’s decision.”John Meyer, attorney for Cottonwood, said he plans to appeal the case to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.Yellowstone’s bison migrate out of the park each winter in search of food. A multi-agency management plan calls for reducing the population. The population was estimated at about 4,500 last fall, and managers agreed to try to cull between 600 and 900.Hunting and a capture-for-slaughter program are the main ways managers try to control population numbers. Several Native American tribes have asserted treaty rights to hunt in the area. The state of Montana also offers a limited number of bison tags.Cottonwood filed this lawsuit in 2018. The complaint pointed to an increase in the number of tribes asserting hunting rights based on treaties signed with the federal government. At least six tribes hunt bison each winter, and much of the activity takes place in a small area on the west side of the Yellowstone River known as Beattie Gulch. Nearby residents have complained for years about safety because of the number of hunters flocking there, and the lawsuit argued an increase in the number of hunters would make it worse. It argued the bison management plan needed to be supplemented to reflect the increase in the number of hunters. The suit also argued that the plan should be updated to include new information about brucellosis and a change in what the park considers to be the population objective. |
