Can DNA Matches Help Even if You Have a Family Tree?

If you have asked around about DNA testing for ancestry purposes, you may have heard someone explain that DNA results – and especially DNA matches – can be helpful for family tree research. What if you already have a big family tree? Can DNA matches still be helpful?

What does "DNA verified" mean on Ancestry?

Have you ever seen “DNA Verified” on someone’s Ancestry tree? You may have seen any number of variations of this, fonts with different colors, and all usually having a simple “DNA” icon. What does it mean when you see this on someone’s tree?

Can your genealogy hobby make you money?

Do you love building family trees, helping people learn about their ancestors, and feel like a detective piecing clues of a puzzle together? If this sounds exactly like you, you might have wondered if there is any way that you put your passion and skills as a family tree research to work for you to earn some income.

How is your DNA match related?  A checklist

Are you stuck trying to figure out how you are related to your DNA match?  Maybe your DNA match has no posted family tree, and you just can’t see any way that you can figure out your connection without more information.  In this post, you’ll find a checklist with the best ways to find the information that you need to figure out how you might be related to the DNA match in question.

Is it possible to use DNA to prove you are descended from someone?

Are you wondering whether it is possible to use your DNA to prove that you are descended from someone?  You have come to the right place.  In my previous post in this series, I mentioned that having your older relatives do a DNA test can be very helpful in learning more about your ancestry.  In this post, I will discuss the DNA results of my grandmother, who is a 9th great-granddaughter of John Alden, a Mayflower passenger.
