Electronic Eye

Sydney Video Makers club newsletter

Dear <<First Name>>, we are so glad that you are reading this :)
LINK to see club calendar.

The Electronic Eye, or EE for short, is the newsletter for the Sydney Video Makers (a.k.a. SVM) Club. You can peruse past edition of the newsletter on our website. We use this newsletter to advise of our upcoming club meetings and provide pertinent news items from our members. We do not wish to be a "me too" video magazine as there are plenty of those already on the web.

The EE is open to both financial members and non-members who are interested. If you wish, you can easily unsubscribe at anytime and if you got this forwarded to you, and want to subscribe you can do so via our club website.

This Wednesday - Competition Results

30 Second Car Ad. is our 1st competition for the year and we had 6 entries. Our panel of 7 judges, include US and UK as well as local people.

We shall be screening the entries and reviewing the judges' comments, with a Q&A from the floor to the film makers.

If you want to participate in upcoming competitions, you need to be a financial member, so why not join up, if you hadn't done so already?

Through the President's Lens

Paul Szilard, SVM President 2019

Member Profile - new member: Mike Black

Mike is one of our most recently joined members., and has already been very active in submitting an entry into the current competition - 30 Sec Car Ad.

Mike joined with a family membership, including his partner Catherine Stafford and daughter Molly Black. Please join me in welcoming them and look out for them at the Wednesday night club meeting.

I asked Mike a few question to help us to get to know him. Here are his answers:

Question
What is your particular interest in video making (directing, shooting, editing, documentaries, drama, whatever)

Answer
I'm interested in gaining an understanding and to put into practice basic techniques/tricks used in film making
Big fan of movies and fancy having a go myself at short films/video clips
I am particularly interested in the way music/sound can enhance video and vice versa

Question
Roughly what is your video related background and experience

Answer
None

Question
Anything in particular that you would like to see or participate in at the club

Answer
Competitions, as I realise the importance of learning through doing and constructive feedback
I would like to see demos and workshops on how basic film making techniques are carried out (for example - filming night scenes - what lighting is needed, software techniques and possibilities)
Also I would like to see examples of why shooting with decent equipment is better than say footage shot with a phone.

Question
If you are interested in joining a Team, what suburb do you live in and what times are you likely to be free (evenings, weekends, or daytime)

Answer
Not really bothered about joining a team
However I will offer my services in attempting to provide music/backing sound for any projects
I live in Waverton.
I don't really have much free time
