Parks Foundation Update
We have now submitted our application to the Charity Commission for the Bristol & Bath Parks Foundation to be formed as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.

Imagine the Slopes in 2030
The Northern Slopes Initiative have launched a plan for the Northern Slopes – and are looking for people views and ideas.
The Plan – and an online survey can be found on – www.northern-slopes-initiative.co.uk/plan
The Plan itself covers the current situation, how the Initiative thinks the Slopes should be in 2030; sets out 5 priorities and matches the priorities with 27 actions.
It also sets out how we will act from here on – and expect others to act towards us.

Budget & Extra money from Central Government

Communities secretary James Brokenshire MP has promised local authorities £9.7m to better maintain, protect and increase their recreational spaces.
An additional £2.75m will also be made available for the pocket parks plus programme, which supports community groups who wish to create new parks or refurbish older ones that have fallen into disrepair.
The National Trust and The National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Future Parks Accelerator initiative have also received a further £1.2m.
While £13m sounds a lot it should be remembered that this is a one-off sum spread across the country. Someone on twitter calculated it as just over £400 per park.
In Bristol it was confirmed at our meeting that the proposed cuts to the budget for Parks for 2019-20 has been reduced by nearly £500,000 – however that still leaves a budget cut of £778,000 and cumulative cuts over three years of nearly £2.5m. (It would have been £4.5m in the original cost neutral plan). Parks believe they are on target to increase income to fill this gap but there remains a risk.
Budget cuts are of course anything but one-off unless it is changed next year the budget continues to be £2.5m less each year. So if all the Government’s money came to Bristol it would only replace just of five years of cuts.

Bristol Forum
On Friday 29th March 2019 the inaugural Bristol Forum takes place at the City Hall. This is an annual event celebrating collaborations between Bristol City Office, University of Bristol, University of the West of England and the community by sharing intelligence, knowledge and insights relating to the challenges facing the city as part of the One City approach.
As part of this event the Skills Bridge team invites you to join them for an evening drinks reception to thank you for engaging with Bristol’s students. Together we will celebrate and showcase the connections made between students and city partners to solve local and global challenges. This will be an exciting, interactive event giving you the chance to mingle with other city partners whilst learning about upcoming projects and new ways to connect with students.
The drinks reception will take place between 5-7pm at the City Hall Vestibules. Please RSVP via Eventbrite by Friday 15 March 2019.
