Are you trying to juggle too much?

March 2019

UK parents are working more and parenting more. Our work days have got longer and digital culture means many of us are responding to work emails no matter what the time of day. Yet we also want to be hands-on parents and are spending more and more of our non-working hours with our children. Is this sustainable? Surely we can't keep working more and parenting more, something's got to give?
If your juggle is a bit of a struggle, we have some tips to help you balance life and parenting. And finding family/career compromises is also the topic of this month's book review, The Mother of All Jobs: how to have children and a career and stay sane(ish). Plus, if combining kids and work is wearing you out, we have a wonderful guest post by Liz Driver on where to find extra energy to get you through the day.
All this plus other news from the Positive Parenting Project.

We can't keep working more and parenting more
Modern parents are labouring under a double whammy. We are working more and parenting more. We are desperate to be good parents but with so many demands on our time and energy, many of us feel like we are running just to stand still. Would we all be better just doing a little less? Read more...

How to stop juggling
If you really want to readdress your work-life balance, you will need to do some uncomfortable thinking. You'll have to challenge deeply-held beliefs, question the things you regard as givens and prioritise according to your own goals (rather than other people's). Here are a few ideas to start you thinking. Read more...
Over on Facebook, our most popular shares this month were an opinion piece about the benefits of strict bedtimes for children and an article from the New York Times on letting children get bored. News from The Positive Parenting Project
I have been absolutely loving the unexpected early Spring sunshine (no matter how short-lived). Those precious moments of rejuvenation are always much easier to find when it's warm outside - and there are so many more options for time out with the children too. If you are planning on spending some family time taking your kids out to a restaurant, then do check out my Ultimate Guide to Dining Out with Children published this month (in collaboration with Meerkat Meals).

If you are wanting to book a workplace parenting seminar or clinic, we are now fully booked until May and have only limited availability this side of the summer holidays - so please do get in touch asap to reserve a slot.
