Please join us this Sunday as we celebrate Saint David's Day, eat our fill of pancakes and sausage and gather for our 2019 Annual Meeting following the First Sunday service at 10am.

We will give thanks for Stephen Sears, our Senior Warden and Vestry members Jack Clark, Sheryl Dolan, Rod Hastie and Bruce Whelihan - for their faithful and fruitful leadership over the last few years, and elect the newest Vestry class.

If you are unsure about whether or not you are a voting member, please check with Joel Wood this week or at the meeting.  Joel will be with us on Sunday to meet those of you he hasn't already and to help everyone signup and check your information in Realm, our new cloud-based database. Looking forward to being with you on a very exciting Sunday!
Saint David's Vestry Nominees
Class of 2019

Senior Warden Candidate
Jim Beardsley

I am so very honored to have been asked to put myself forward to the congregation to be St. David’s next Senior Warden.  While I may be relatively new to St. David’s, I am not new to the Episcopal Church.    My father and my grandfather were both Episcopal priests, serving parishes in upstate New York, Connecticut, Long Island and the Philadelphia suburbs during the second half of the last century.

As for me, with my roots as a “PK”, or “priest’s kid”, I was able to observe  and learn from watching my father (and my mother) working on the pastoral and liturgical aspects  of parish life, to be sure, but also the practical, business-like aspects that comes with that life.  I have had the honor of vestry service at my former parish in Baltimore County and excitedly look forward to the opportunity to serve again.

My wife, Karen and I were introduced to St. David’s last year, just before Rev. Hawley took her leave to have her son, George. We were drawn to St. David’s by its intimacy, the congregants that we already knew and the very strong sense of positivity in spite of past challenges.  We are a parish that feels like a family, full of hope and with a willingness to do what is necessary to flourish. Karen and I have four grown children, plus a terrific son-in-law, sprinkled around in places like New York City, San Diego and most recently, Sydney, Australia.  We live in Bethesda with our chocolate lab, Hickory, who clearly runs the show.

My pledge is to seize the momentum created by Kristen, Steven Sears and the vestry and with the leadership of the new vestry members, deliver on the significant progress already underway, while thoughtfully augmenting it with new ideas that will serve our congregation, our church, our clergy and our community, to the very best of my ability.

We love our new parish and we look forward to getting to know everyone who makes St. David’s the wonderful place that it is.

My husband grew up in the St. David’s parish, and I began attending the church when we were married in 1979 and moved to Washington.  Our four children attended Sunday School and confirmation classes at St. David’s.  I taught in the Sunday School and served two terms on the Vestry in the past.  I played the piano for the St. David’s services at Grand Oaks for a number of years and am currently on the outreach committee.  I was also on the most recent search committee for our new rector.
