The situation: Two big questions to answer from tonight's Axanar: Confidential on the Axanar YouTube channel: (1) What will we learn from Axanar writer-director Paul Jenkins, and (2) will the livestream reverse the zero and negative growth that's plagued the Ares Studios Patreon for days now?

1. Peters Proposed Settling with Burnett

Original image from Axanar Productions
A rejected settlement proposal from Alec Peters outlines his biggest beefs with former Axanar director Robert Meyer Burnett. AxaMonitor obtained a copy of the settlement agreement Peters wanted Burnett to sign in order to avoid litigation — and we're part of the failed deal!

What Peters wants kept out the public eye: The proposed settlement offers a look into what's really at stake in Peters' suit, and what Burnett must concede for Peters to give up the money he says he's owed:
  • Don't talk to AxaMonitor. Ever. Burnett must agree never to speak with AxaMonitor editor Carlos Pedraza, podcaster and former 1701 News editor Michael Hinman or ardent Facebook critic Shawn O’Halloran. And Burnett can't try to worm his way around this by trying to get anyone to share information on his behalf.
  • Give me back Axanar: Peters wants Burnett to return every bit of digital property relating to Axanar the former director still has in his possession.
  • More important than money: Peters is willing to drop all his claims for money (at least $45,500 worth) if Burnett only "specifically acknowledges" Peters' loaned him money, paid him a salary and paid him to produce behind the scenes videos. Also, that Burnett took computer equipment belonging to Axanar Productions. In return:
“Peters agrees to drop all of claims against Burnett, whether monetary or otherwise, including all claims for debt, equipment, intellectual property or defamation.”
  • Don't sue me. Ever. Burnett must agree never to file suit against Peters for anything (e.g., money, damage to reputation).
  • Don't bad-mouth me and I won't bad mouth you: The two mutually agree to not publicly disparage one another.
  • Peters' business practices are one of the items specified that Burnett is not permitted discuss. We've covered these extensively.
  • Non-disclosure agreement: The one Burnett signed in 2015 would be incorporated into the settlement agreement.
  • Give up ownership claims for anything related to Axanar, including copyright.
  • No documentaries or release of anything using any Axanar-owned material whatsoever.
  • Take down videos: All Axanar-related videos Burnett has released on his website and YouTube must come down, especially those in which Burnett allegedly defamed Peters.

2. YouTuber Goes to War Against Peters and Axanar

‘I'M DONE WITH STAR TREK FAN FILMS’ YouTuber MechaRandom42 rages against Axanar's Alec Peters after he attacks her via Instant Messenger.
Reap the whirlwind: Axanar producer Alec Peters steps up his campaign against longtime rival Vic Mignogna, demanding people join his public condemnation of the Star Trek Continues star and anime actor, drawing the vociferous ire of influential YouTuber MechaRandom42.
  • Alignment of YouTube stars: She is one of several prominent YouTubers with whom Peters was trying to align himself. Then berated her in a series of instant messages for standing up for Mignogna, who’s been accused of sexual misconduct, of which she is skeptical.
  • Condemnation: MechaRandom42 quoted those messages and condemned both Peters and Axanar for ruining Star Trek fan films. She vlogs extensively about Star Trek and other fandoms, and is a well-known detractor of Star Trek: Discovery.
  • She posted an angry video response (above) to Peters on Saturday after he demanded she join him in condemning Mignogna. She refused. That video garnered 17,960 views by Sunday night.
  • Wave of sympathy: What she describes as bullying by Peters signaled a wave of sympathy for her, especially from other well known YouTubers whom Peters had been courting to form some kind of network, including the well-known Midnight's Edge:
“If anyone should know how the court of public opinion works … with all he's dealt with I can't believe Alec would talk to anyone like this. Just wow. … The chances of us working with Alec again are pretty slim, [to be honest].”
  • Live chat rant: In a YouTube livestream Sunday night, MechaRandom42 passionately continued airing her anger toward Peters.
  • Banned: Peters, his girlfriend and other Axanar supporters tried to defend themselves during the live chat.  MechaRandom42 ended up banning them — a tactic Peters commonly uses against his own critics.
  • Live chat removed: Her live chat was listed on YouTube as "unavailable" at press time.
Why This Matters: Peters stands to lose access to lucrative revenue offered by a network of YouTubers leading the charge against common enemy CBS, combining anger over the studio's suing Peters' Axanar with growing rage against the imagined sins Discovery is committing against Star Trek canon.
  • Peters depends on YouTube revenue to help pay for the warehouse he calls Ares Studios. Meanwhile, the studio Patreon lost at least one donor who told us Peters demanded they not support Mignogna's legal defense fund.

Short Takes: Burnett Lawsuit, Patreon Goes Negative

Listen to more about the Peters v. Burnett lawsuit on as AxaMonitor editor Carlos Pedraza joins host Michael Hinman. Tuesday at 7 p.m. EST on Alpha Waves Radio, on the Odysy radio network.
Negative territory: For the first time, Axanar's Ares Studios Patreon veered below zero for an entire day. While the campaign's daily growth has dipped below zero before, it made up the difference later with new donors.
  • Mignogna rants cost Ares one donor: Peters has been proclaiming publicly and privately that others should join him in condemning his rival, actor Vic Mignogna, for alleged sexual misconduct (Peters called him a "predator"). One patron withdrew his donation after Peters berated him for contributing to the anime actor's legal defense fund.
