Colleagues,

By providing detailed information on your students, Comprehensive Analytics for Student Success (COMPASS) offers insights that enable faculty to positively impact our campus strategic goals to elevate the student experience and improve student success. The objective is to better understand who our students are and where they stand in their academic career at UCI. With this information, faculty are better equipped to help improve student learning and the overall student experience. Provost Lavernia and I appreciate the momentum and support from faculty and look forward to your continued partnership as COMPASS is integrated into our teaching and learning processes. To this end, here is an update on the status of COMPASS reports for faculty.

Course Demographics Insights Report Currently Available for Faculty

Earlier this academic year, reports providing the demographic composition of students were made available to all faculty. The user-friendly Course Demographics Insights report displays aggregated, non-identified demographic and academic information about the undergraduate students that you teach. The report provides a data dashboard of the composition of your students including class standing, major, demographic data, classes that have previously been taken, and more. Advising and student support staff have access to detailed COMPASS reporting. In addition, there are links to the current research and evidence-based practices that are aimed at enhancing the learning experience for a wide-range of students.

To access the Course Demographics Insights report visit compass.uci.edu.

Grade Distribution Report to be Released Spring Quarter

Beginning in the spring 2019 quarter, faculty will have access to a grade distribution report for all courses at UCI. The report does not contain individual student data. Future versions of this report will allow faculty to view grade distributions for sub-populations in the course, provided that there are a minimum number of students in the sub-population to prevent individual student identification.

For general questions and feedback on the COMPASS reports or project, please contact ovptl@uci.edu.

Yours,
Michael Dennin
