events: wisdom in the wilderness

Award-winning writer-conservationist-activist Terry Tempest Williams cast a quiet spell on members of the Wesleyan and greater Middletown communities during a reading and book-signing reception at Memorial Chapel on March 1. Were you there? Read more about the event--and see photos--on our coexist blog!

homegrown: recipes & remedies

events: rachel sayet

A special thanks to anthropologist and Mohegan educator Rachel Sayet, or Akitusu (She Who Reads), for visiting our sophomore seminar in environmental studies course (ENVS201) last month to share her thoughts about the importance of revitalizing traditional foodways. Read more on our coexist blog!

fieldwork: antonio machado-allison

Menakka and Essel Bailey '66 Distinguished Visiting Scholar in the College of the Environment Antonio Machado-Allison has published an article about Los Llanos (the Venezuela Plains) in the newest issue of Explora, a journal dedicated to nature and conservation in Venezeula. Antonio also recently authored the Catálogo Ilustrado de los peces del Parque Nacional Aguaro-Guariquito, a full-color catalog of the fish found in Venezuela's Aguaro-Guariquito National Park. Antonio's research focuses on freshwater neotropical fishes: systematics, evolution, ecology and conservation. Pictured above: Antonio and author Terry Tempest Williams share a moment in solidarity for the people of Venezuela.
