Kick imposter syndrome's butt

Hi! Hey! Hi there!

Who’s been up since 6 AM because doing a presentation about imposter syndrome gave her… imposter syndrome?

Aha, that’s me!

The lovely people at Codette, a community in Bucharest that promotes diversity in tech and creates opportunities for women in STEM, invited me to share a bit of what I’ve learned so far.

This is the first ever talk I’ve done all by myself (moderating and presenting aside), so I was rather nervous all morning.

But during the yearly Codette Celebration Day, I felt energized, I related to the topics, and felt the uplifting effect of women supporting each other.

My presentation focused on imposter syndrome and the tactics of managing
it that worked for me, enabling me to break limiting self-beliefs.

You can read the dedicated article here, where I also included an extended version of the presentation I gave today, packed with articles, resources, and book recommendations.

To me, imposter syndrome and its many nuances have a significant impact on our ability to make informed, rational, and thoughtful choices.

3 ways that imposter-syndrome affects your decision-making

  1. Self-doubt leads to hesitation and indecision which stalls our progress
  2. Self-sabotage makes us risk-averse, thus missing out on great opportunities
  3. Limiting self-beliefs lead to isolation, anxiety, and even depression.

From my experience, breaking the impostor cycle is rooted in the firm choice to build self-awareness and internalize progress and achievements, among other things.

I hope you’ll enjoy the personal stories I shared to convey my experience and all the things that helped me manage imposter syndrome effectively and lead a more rewarding life.

Today I felt truly welcomed in this awesome community! Talking to people who found my examples useful was a strong reminder of why we need to discuss
about this topic more often.

If you’ve experienced imposter syndrome, I’d love to hear from you and find out what you’d add to the list of helpful ideas and tactics to overcome it.

Have a great Sunday and thanks so much for reading!
