  • Yes, count me in
  • I am interested but...
  • No thanks
Those of you who were present at Dennis Ducklow’s presentation heard him talk about the amazing Chris Harris and his photography.

We have the opportunity to bring Chris here for a two day workshop… keep reading to see the full workshop outline below. Note: the times indicated in the outline below; are examples only, the actual times will be determined after booking.
  • Dates: May 25th & 26th
  • Cost: between $300 - $350 each person for the weekend
  • Workshop for: 10 – 12 people

This 2-Day workshop is designed to take you on a journey toward photographic artistry.

With illustrated talks on art and photography, in-the-field art projects, and constructive evaluation sessions, you will discover new ways to interpret your most familiar landscapes and subject matter. By turning the vivid realities in front of you into new, unique, and never-before-seen realities, you will journey toward becoming a true artist.

“Since publishing my most recent book, where documentary style images were created to provide a sense of place, my photography has taken me in new directions.  With the freedom of a creative artist, I now find the traditions of Expressionism and Abstraction exceptionally appealing”.

Documentary photographs usually reveal a subject as special moments in time; often highlighted by dramatic lighting and or action.

Expressionist photographs also reveal the subject, but they are expressed in new non-traditional ways. They speak more about visual expression than about the subject.

Abstract photographs are more mysterious. They begin with real subjects, but by freeing up the elements of visual design, one is able to deconstruct physical realities and reconstruct them as new and intriguing creative realities.

The techniques you will learn will free you to visualize the possibilities of each of these photographic styles. You will begin to interpret your world with a new freedom of expression.

Outline: 2-Day Photography Workshop

“Freedom of Expression” with Chris Harris

A Workshop in Photography as Art

This two-day workshop is designed for up to 10 photographers who are interested in reaching for new horizons. With a refined tool-kit and new ways of seeing, you will jump- start your power to envision yourself as a photographic artist.

Illustrated talks on art and photography, in-the-field art projects, and constructive evaluation sessions will help you:

  1. Go to new places in photography by bringing the familiar into a new dimension of artistry.

  2. Learn Free Form Expressionism and Abstract photography. (See the Portfolios Page on my website for examples)

  3. Find beauty and art in unexpected places.

2-Day Workshop Schedule:

Day 2:

9:00 – 11:30

  • Evaluation: The purpose of this exercise is to point out ones strong and weak points covering such points as artistic expression, technique, processing, and composition.

11:30 – 12:30

12:30 – 2:30

  • In the Field. This is a chance to build on what we all learned during the above evaluation session.

2:30 – 3:30

  • Using your laptops, select and edit 3 images for evaluation.

3:30 – 4:30

  • Evaluation

4:30 – 5:00

  • Conclusion. A talk on your photography going forward.

What to Bring to the workshop:

  • Bring your camera(s), lenses, and tripod if you have one. Batteries should be charged.

  • The ultimate scenario to take best advantage of this workshop is to have a camera with a Multiple Exposure (ME) Function of 9 or 10 with four Blend Modes. However, this is NOT a requirement. You may have a camera that takes multiple exposures of only 2 or 3, with no blend modes. That is fine; you just won’t be able to do as much or be as creative, but you will learn what is possible with different camera models.

  • Bring your laptop and card reader for the afternoon of Day-2 so you can select and process 3 images for evaluation.

  • Optional: bring a polarizing filter and/or neutral density filters. Don’t worry if you don’t have them.

  • We will photograph indoors and outdoors, so wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

  • Come to the workshop knowing your camera. Review your manual if necessary. Determine if your camera has a Multiple Exposure function - with or without blend modes - and know where they are on your particular camera.

  • Bring a note book and pen.
