Voice and Choice: Using Evidence to Support Women and Girls in Emergency Settings

Evidence shows that emergencies – whether human made or natural – disparately affect adolescents, particularly young women and girls. Despite their unique risk-profile, responses are often not tailored to specifically meet the needs of women and girls. With increasing rates of natural disasters, and long-term settlement (avg. 10 years) in displaced persons camps, innovative, evidence-based programming is urgently needed. Evidence can help bring voice to the most marginalized – reflecting their needs and preferences – and can ensure we deliver the right approaches to the right populations, at the right time.

On the way to Biarritz: Women’s Rights at the heart of the G7 Summit

Following the 2018 G7 Summit in Canada, which led to key commitments to advance women’s and girls’ rights, France has chosen the fight for gender equality as a key priority theme under the French G7 presidency in 2019. The stakes are high, because all over the world, and particularly in developing countries, women and girls face a wide range of inequalities and discrimination regarding their access to and control over resources and power. G7 leaders have a responsibility to take into account women’s and girls’ voices and to take action to fight such inequalities.

Rural Women's Empowerment for Food Security and Nutrition for All: Evidence from Joint UN Work

By highlighting the specific risks over the life course of women and girls who experience multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination, particularly young women and adolescent girls, older women, migrant women, women with disabilities, the Beyond Zero platform has advocated for inclusive and holistic social protection measures.

Closing the Gender Pay Gap

Equal pay, in addition to empowering women, can have a significant impact on achieving other key goals, such as promoting inclusive societies, reducing poverty, and creating conditions for decent work and gender equality. The Equal Pay International Coalition (EPIC) is currently the only multi-stakeholder partnership working to reduce the gender pay gap at the global, regional and national levels. This side event will provide an opportunity for high-level country representatives and private sector entities to present to the international community their commitment, actions and future perspectives in support of EPIC.
