Get Inspired!

Every Board of Education meeting opens with an Inspiration.  Allyson was selected to lead the Inspiration for the March meeting.  She chose to highlight Yehimi Cambron, Cross Keys High School art teacher and a graduate of the Cross Keys Class of 2010.

Yehimi is not only a teacher, she is also a well-known artist. She recently received worldwide coverage as 1 of 9 national artists selected to paint murals depicting Atlanta’s civil rights and social justice journey in preparation for Super Bowl LIII.  She came to Atlanta from Mexico with her family as an undocumented immigrant at age 8 and became a DACA recipient in 2013.

To see Allyson and Yehimi’s full presentation, please click here.  The Inspiration begins at 3:05 in the video.
See more of Yehimi Cambron's work and her initiatives on Facebook @Yehimi Cambron or Instagram @ycambron.

Georgia Legislative Update

The annexation bill, SB 53, passed the full House and will now go for the Governor’s signature. SB 53 establishes reasonable rules and thresholds regarding the impact of annexations by cities with independent school districts.

The school voucher bill, SB 173, which would allow public funds to be used for private school vouchers failed to pass in the Senate.

Fabulous Feats in District 4

The Evansdale Elementary French Immersion Program was recently named a recipient of the le LabelFrancEducation, an award given to organizations that provide high-quality French language and cultural education.

This prestigious award, given by the Government of France’s General Consulate’s Office, has been awarded to fewer than 50 schools in the United States. Evansdale Elementary is just the second school in Georgia to receive the award.

Congratulations to the Tucker High School Boys Basketball Team for competing in the 2019 6A State Championship Finals!
