LAST DAY TO PURCHASE AUCTION TICKETS!
We would like to thank Lawton parent Kim Preston, of Kim Preston Photography, for photographing all of our wonderful students year after year!

We'd also like to thank the parent volunteers who showed up Friday morning to help create this display. Stop by and take a look before they head to the auction.
Don't forget to go online and check out the Auction Catalog for experiences you can purchase NOW before the big event.

Some highlights of the auction include:
  • Silent auction with items ranging from wine tasting, to sports tickets, to summer camps
  • Dessert dash with desserts from notable businesses around the city, including Dahlia Bakery, Petit Pierre and Kaspar’s Catering
  • Raffle for two great prizes - a $500 gift card to Canlis or a $500 gift card to the Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle for a one-night stay in deluxe accommodations, plus brunch
  • Live auction with items ranging from art made by every classroom, to a private in-home wine tasting for 10, to a vacation for two nights in the San Juan Islands plus airfare for two on Kenmore Air
We look forward to seeing you at the Ballard Bay Club. Ticket sales close TONIGHT and will not be sold at the door. If you have questions, please contact Sara Kadletz, sara@montlakepartners.com.

THANK YOU to all of the Lawton parents who volunteer before, during, and after the event. Your time and effort are greatly appreciated!

ROLLERBLADING CLEAN-UP: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The rollerblading unit is sadly coming to an end, and Ms. Volk needs at least four or five volunteers to help her clean up and organize the rollerblades and equipment right after school this Friday (March 22). If you are available to help, please email Ms. Volk or reply to this email.
NEWS FROM NURSE SOMI & OFFICE NEWS
Here are a few requests and tips from Annette, Kristina, and Nurse Somi:
  • Nurse Somi's office is in need of elastic-waistband pants in size 8/10. Please drop off pants that are in good condition. Thank you!

  • We are having reports of students throwing up at Lawton recently. The best way to prevent further illness in our community is to educate and remind all students that, hand washing is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your family from getting sick.” -CDC. If you need any handwashing activities or materials, please feel free to reach out to Nurse Somi directly. Check here for additional info: https://www.cdc.gov/features/handwashing/index.html

  • LOST & FOUND: It is time to take a glance at our Lost & Found bin. It is beginning to overflow with coats, fleece jackets, and water bottles. This is another reminder to label ALL removable clothing and accessories with your child's first and last name
ADVOCACY NEWS - MAGNOLIA BRIDGE
Think the Magnolia Bridge should be replaced? Hold onto your hope, folks. The bridge was damaged in the 1997 mudslides and the 2001 Nisqually earthquake. Seattle has known for many years that it needs replacing, but funding its replacement has been a debate across the city, with the latest opposition coming from The Stranger two weeks ago.

However, at a recent legislative town hall, Representative Gael Tarleton announced that the state "has an interest in an interconnected system for people, traffic and freight mobility in the 15th Ave. W. corridor, as an alternate route to SR-99 for the western side of the city."

Representative Tarleton said that she and Representative Noel Frame would submit a budget proviso in the State Transportation budget to fund integrated planning for our corridor. If the proviso passes, the state will fund a study "that addresses replacement of both Magnolia and Ballard Bridges, as part of an interconnected system for people and freight."

Nothing is certain, but please take action if you feel a 1:1 replacement is critical to an interconnected Ballard-Interbay corridor.
MATH NIGHT - THANK YOU!

We had another great turnout! Thank you to all of the families who attended this year's Family Math Night. Thank you to all of the teachers who spent last Thursday night providing parents with so many helpful tips and strategies. We'd also like to thank Jen Thompson for supplying creative Pi-themed treats.

MAGNOLIA ELEMENTARY: PTA ELECTION

Interested in a PTA leadership position?! This is your opportunity to make an impact on the opening of your new community school. As Lawton and Blaine students move into Magnolia Elementary, it would be beneficial to have a PTA Board of both former Lawton and former Blaine parents represented. Keep that in mind when you're on the fence about joining the PTA Board.

The PTA Nominating Committee must create a proposed slate of officers before the Charter PTA Meeting on Tuesday, April 2nd. Your attendance is needed to elect our future President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer

To learn more about each position, please contact Emily McComb by Friday, March 22nd, and then please attend the meeting on Tuesday, April 2nd at 6:30PM at Blaine to vote.

PARENT EDUCATION NIGHT: INTERNET SAFETY
SAVE THE DATE: Tuesday, April 23 from 6:00-7:30PM. Childcare is available.

Does your child have access to a computer, tablet, or smartphone? Does your child watch videos on YouTube? If so, it's time to learn more about keeping your child safe on the Internet

Mark your calendars for our PTA-sponsored Parent Education Night on Technology and Internet Safety. Well-known speaker, Stefanie Thomas, will present an educational session covering cyberbullying, online gaming, sexting, cell phone and internet tips, and online posting. Stefanie Thomas is an internet safety expert who has worked with law enforcement regarding the exploitation of children online.

While this is an all-school parent education event, it does coincide with our all-member PTA meeting. We would like as many members in attendance as possible to vote on the PTA budget for the 2019-2020 school year. You must be a PTA member to vote. Please attend the PTA work meeting, followed by Stefanie Thomas' presentation.

In the meantime, check out Common Sense Media for some helpful tips on online safety.
