First Week of Lent, 2019
One does not live on bread alone.
- Luke 4:1-13 -

What to Give Up...
Give up complaining... focus on gratitude
Give up pessimism... become an optimist
Give up harsh judgments... think kindly thoughts
Give up worry... trust Divine Providence
Give up discouragement... be full of hope
Give up bitterness... turn to forgiveness
Give up hatred... return good for evil
Give up negativism... be positive
Give up anger... be more patient
Give up pettiness... become mature
Give up gloom... enjoy the beauty that is all around you
Give up jealousy... pray for trust
Give up gossiping... control your tongue
Give up sin... turn to virtue
Give up giving up... hang in there!

Direct our actions, Lord, by your holy inspiration and carry them forward by your gracious help, that all our works may begin in you and by you be happily ended.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever.

- Amen -

Making Catholic Education Possible for All Students
The 24th annual St. Patrick’s Day Raffle is on Saturday, March 16th in the SJS gymnasium beginning at 5:00 p.m. The Grand Prize is $25,000!

This is one of our school’s biggest one night fundraiser and we depend on it to keep Catholic education alive in Ashtabula County. The raffle has raised well over $1,000,000 through the years!

We need the support of our school community, especially parents, to make this a success. The ticket price is $1,000, which includes eight meal tickets.  A dinner ticket is available to anyone donating $125.  Any donation is greatly appreciated though.  Should you win the grand prize; the money will be divided among all winners according to the percentage of the ticket purchased.

Volunteers Needed
Thank you to all who have volunteered to help.  We are still in need of the following:
  • Help serving appetizers on Saturday night from 4:30-7:30pm.
  • One person to help Mr. Valentic with counting and organizing money.
  • Two people to help direct people to their seats.  This is a perfect volunteer role if you are coming to the dinner as you are finished early and then can enjoy the rest of the night.

Class Ticket Update
We have a week to go and we are at 40% of our goal.  We need everyone to pitch in to make our goal of selling our class tickets.  If everyone gave $25.00, we would be in a good place.  Please click on graphic below to see class results as of Friday, March 8th:

A heartfelt thank you for your continued support!

Herald Athletic Announcements
A friendly reminder for all Spring Student Athletes: For students playing a spring sport, who did not participate in a winter sport, you need to sign up for Final Forms.

FinalForms allows you to complete and sign athletic participation forms for your students. The most exciting news is that FinalForms saves data from season-to-season and year-to-year, meaning that you will never need to enter the same information twice! FinalForms also pre-populates information wherever possible, for each of your students, saving you time.

All student athletes and their families will need to have an account.  We will be glad to help you through the process.

Included below is a flyer with directions on how to enroll.  We are asking that ALL parents of athletes use FinalForms.  Please register below now and electronically complete ALL forms!  It would be helpful if you have registered prior to the meeting so we can address any issues.

Thank you for your assistance in streamlining our paperwork processes at Saint John School.
