The Fun Run is Here!

Dust off your sneakers and get ready to run for it!  The Fun Run is coming up on Wednesday, April 10th.

This is our final major fundraiser for the year and it's an important one.  The money we raise funds the wonderful programs our kids enjoy at Abernethy.  Library and classroom staff, instructional support and mini-grants are all partially funded through our contributions.
The Fun Run is a jog-a-thon style fundraiser held during school hours.  Students run around the school grounds on a ¼ mile paved course for 30 minutes.  There’s music, balloons and loads of encouragement around the course.  Come and cheer them on.  It’s surprising how many laps these kids can run!

This Year: Improved online pledging with Pledgestar!

Money is raised by asking friends, family and neighbors to support them by pledging a one-time donation or a dollar amount per lap.  This year, we will be adopting Pledgestar, the same online pledge system that worked so well for the Tour de Ladd.

Visit
here to create a fundraising page for your child/family.  (The old blue paper pledge forms are available in the office should you prefer that your kids make their donation requests face to face or by telephone.)

Pledges should be gathered prior to the run on Wednesday, April 10th.

We need volunteers!

This is a fun event to volunteer for.  Most shifts only take 30-45 minutes and you can come cheer on your kiddo at the same time.  Click here and sign up for the shift of your choice.

ON YOUR MARKS. . .GET SET. . .START COLLECTING PLEDGES!!!
An info sheet will be coming home with your child this week.  Tape it to your refrigerator for quick reference.  Look for more information coming your way in upcoming Monday Mailers.

Auction Update!

From Auction HQ, we are happy to report a stellar time was had at the first of many Auction Sign-Up Parties this weekend.  The Kindergarten Teachers' "Kindergartners Go Bowling!" party at Kingpins was a super fun time!
Sign-Up Parties were a special focus with the auction this year. The
committee wanted to increase the number and options to allow our
community more opportunities to engage and celebrate with one another.

A whopping 29 parties and experiences will be occurring over the next 6
months. What a great way to enjoy our time together and raise funds for
our school!
A handful of the experiences have available slots, so check them out at the Auction Website.  Also, a full list of party dates/times/locations can be found at supportabernethy.org

We are ecstatic to report that 32 Teacher/Staff Sponsorships were recorded by the night of the Gala. The sponsorships defrayed the cost of attending the Gala for our hardworking teachers and staff. Those in attendance will surely agree that the night was extra special because of their attendance and energy.
For the 4th and 5th grade all-class inclusive celebrations, 80 (and  counting) sponsorships have been recorded!

Your support of these two celebrations will allow ALL students of the 4th and 5th grade classes to attend. What memories they will have!
Finally, we want to thank everyone for their time, energy and generosity put towards Abernethy's Annual Auction. Like you, we are moms and dads doing our part to help our school and community. It is never too little or too late to find your volunteer opportunity. It truly does take each and every one of us to make our community thrive, so Come On Down... and volunteer!

Cheers!

Abernethy Conversations About Race

Thanks to all who participated in our K-3 read-aloud!

Over 60 parents and students met in small groups led by Abernethy teachers Caryn Anderson, Erica Arthurs, Susan Brown, Julie Miller, David Scholten, Wendy Siri, Ruth Tessema, and guest teacher Sarah Hooper.

Here are just a few of the thoughts that came up in our large group discussion:

I learned... that we can still be friends if our skin color is different.

I wonder... how did racism start?

I hope... that we have more conversations about race at Abernethy.

Click here for a list of the books we read!  And check out our bulletin board in the main hallway to see more.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?
