By Way of Reminder #293
Broken Record of Conviction

Our son is nearly two years old and absolutely loves the song: "I Need Thee Every Hour."

I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
Ev’ry hour I need Thee!
Oh, bless me now, my Savior;
I come to Thee!

It's to the point where he asks for it every time we're in the car, sings portions of it while walking around the room, and requests that we do the same when putting him in bed. His persistence is admirable!

The other day he had asked to play it again in the car - at least five or six times - and the track was starting to wear a little thin. Then, my wife said something amazing:

"I think his love for this song is helping me remember how much I need Him."

It was not one day later that I had a similar experience, hearing the truth of the lyrics echo out of the mouths of this babe in our midst.

Parenting can be a hard task, but it is a long game; the momentary phases our children go through really are just drops in the bucket. When we look at this portion of his life as a season, we see more clearly into the heart of a sinner who does indeed need Christ.

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Hebrews 4:14-16

Plus...there are far worse songs that he could request to play on repeat, memorize in chunks, and hear us affirm before bedtime. Our need for Him is great and should be on our minds, indeed, every single hour.

Do justly. Love kindness. Walk humbly. Stay tuned.

In Christ,

CK Hicks
